Awards for 4/22/2023

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Shelbi Hauges, Poland softball. The undefeated Tornadoes routed Hamilton 18-3 on April 19 led by Hauges’ complete-game pitching effort along with three hits and three runs scored.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Nico Spaziani, Watertown boys lacrosse. It was Spaziani’s two goals and an assist that helped the Cyclones fight past South Jefferson 7-5 on April 18 and move to 4-0 on the season.

Empower Federal Credit Union Rewarding Effort: Peyton Kimball, Utica Proctor baseball. Proctor beat rival Rome Free Academy 11-4 on April 20 with Kimball pitching five innings and also getting three RBIs at the plate.

Ethan Allen Award of Excellence: Gabrielle Cranfield, Cortland girls lacrosse. Cranfield’s four goals helped the Purple Tigers get its first win of the season 11-7 over Syracuse City on April 18.

Fitness Forum/Ultimate Goal/Sports 481 Fabulous Effort: Jack Towns, Whitesboro boys track and field. Whitesboro beat Camden 78-63 on April 19 with Towns sweeping the 100, 200 and 400-meter sprints and helping in the 4×400 relay.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: Julia Wilson, Cato-Meridian softball. Wilson had five hits, three of them doubles, three RBIs and four runs scored in the Blue Devils’ 21-4 win over Tully on April 19.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Meredith Sommers, Christian Brothers Academy girls golf. Sommers shot a 37 for nine holes in the Brothers’ 177-272 victory over Westhill on April 20.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Luke Dupee, General Brown boys lacrosse. Earning six assists to go with his pair of goals, Dupee led the Lions past Thousand Islands 17-3 on April 18.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Traian Cherciu, Cazenovia boys tennis. Cherciu’s first singles win in straight sets over Max Karpinski helped key a 3-2 victory over Skaneateles in a Lakers clash on April 20.

Revitalize! CNY Rewarding Performance: Abby Reed, Stockbridge Valley softball. In Stockbridge’s 8-0 shutout of Madison April 20, Reed amassed 20 strikeouts and only allowed one hit to the Blue Devils.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Aaliyah Mattox, Southern Hills girls lacrosse. With four goals and three assists, Mattox helped the Thunder rout Mexico 19-2 on April 20 to move to 6-1 on the season.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Michael Hance, Fayetteville-Manlius boys lacrosse, scoring in overtime to help the Hornets hand Skaneateles its first defeat of the season in a 9-8 decision on April 18.

Upstate Urology Upstart: Sophia VanHorn, West Genesee softball. With her four hits, three of them doubles, and three runs scored VanHorn pushed the Wildcats to a 7-3 victory over East Syracuse Minoa on April 20.

U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Ingrid Aagaard, Homer girls track and field. With a sweep of the 100, 200 and 400-meter sprints, Aagaard helped the Trojans get an 84-46 victory over Christian Brothers Academy on April 19.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Braden Seeber, Baldwinsville baseball. With his home run, double and four RBIs, Seeber carried the Bees to a 7-6 victory over Liverpool on April 17.

Zero Draft Defensive Standout: Allyson Bruns, Oswego girls lacrosse. All of Bruns’ 10 saves helped the Buccaneers gain a 9-8 victory over county rival Central Square on April 15.
