Awards for 3/29/2025

APEX Ace Award: Evan O’Neil, Syracuse City boys lacrosse. O’Neil was unstoppable in Syracuse’s season-opening 12-4 win over Utica Proctor on March 28 outscoring the opposition with his seven goals.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Julia Wortley, Tully softball. Standing out in the Black Knights’ 11-4 defeat to Phoenix on March 27, Wortley notched three hits in her four trips to the plate.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Liz Rayhill, New Hartford girls lacrosse. Putting up three goals and adding three assists, Rayhill pushed the Spartans to a season-opening 12-7 win over Southern Hills on March 28.

Hello Garage Game Changer: Samantha Sovocool, Homer softball. Sovocool hit a home run and finished with three RBIs as the Trojans opened its season on March 27 with a 9-6 victory over Fabius-Pompey at Gutchess Park.

The Image Press Icon: Chace Cogan, West Genesee boys lacrosse. Earning three goals and one assist, Cogan was a key factor for the Wildcats defeating Worthington-Kilbourn 18-9 on March 29 at Mike Messere Field.

JKS Roofing High Achiever: Leah Altieri, Clinton girls lacrosse. Though the Comets lost its season opener 11-8 to Jordan-Elbridge on March 28 Altieri had a strong showing with four goals, half her team’s output.

Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Mitch Donegan, Marcellus boys basketball, taking a charge on Woodlands’ Max Abrahams in the closing seconds of the March 22 NYSPHSAA state Class B final in Binghamton to preserve the Mustangs’ eventual 63-58 victory.

Mabey’s Moving and Storage Major Mover: Briella Gilfus, Jordan-Elbridge girls lacrosse. When the Eagles defeated Clinton 11-8 in the March 28 season opener, Gilfus offered a key contribution earning a three-goal hat trick.

M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Payton Taylor, Fabius-Pompey softball. Though the Falcons had a 9-6 defeat to homer on March 27 Taylor finished with three hits at the plate, including a double, and scored twice.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Aliana DiBlasi, Oswego girls lacrosse. DiBlasi stood out for the Buccaneers in a 12-7 defeat to Homer on March 29 finishing with two goals and one assist.

North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort: Angelina Kohler, Liverpool girls basketball. With her 11 points, Kohler concluded a strong season for the Warriors in its 67-47 defeat to Albertus Magnus in the NYSPHSAA Class AAA final March 23 in Troy.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Sam Coleman, Auburn boys lacrosse. Coleman put up a three-goal hat trick in the Maroons’ season opener on March 28, which turned out to be a 15-10 defeat to Ithaca.

O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Olivia Cook, Cicero-North Syracuse flag football, throwing a conversion pass to Hailey Dupra which proved the decisive point in the Northstars’ 7-6 win over Bethlehem on March 28.

110 Grill Award of Excellence: Ava Meyers, Phoenix softball. When the Firebirds defeated Tully 11-4 in the March 27 season opener, Meyers stood out at the plate with a single and triple plus a team-high three RBIs.

Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Otto Moses, Marcellus boys lacrosse. The Mustangs’ tough season-opening 10-9 win over Hilton on March 29 was largely due to Moses stopping 16 of the 25 direct shots he faced in goal.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer:  Gabby Putman, Cicero-North Syracuse girls lacrosse. Putman had three goals including the game-winner in overtime as the Northstars opened its season March 29 edging Penfield 10-9 in overtime.

Senke CNY Garage Door Sensational Star: Henry Dougherty, Fayetteville-Manlius boys lacrosse. Though the Hornets took an 11-10 defeat to Worthington-Kilbourn on March 27 Dougherty had a fine effort putting in a pair of goals and adding two assists.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Maria Partis, Homer girls lacrosse. Picking up four goals, Partis set the pace for the Trojans as it defeated Oswego 11-8 in the March 29 season opener for both teams.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Marcellus boys basketball clinching the first-ever NYSPHSAA Class B championship when it defeated Woodlands 63-58 March 23 in the title game played in Binghamton.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Emery McCartney, Christian Brothers Academy girls lacrosse. Notching a trio of assists to go with her lone goal, McCartney pushed the Brothers to a 13-4 win over Queensbury in the March 28 season opener.
