Awards for 2/1/2025

APEX Ace Award: Nolan Wood, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill boys volleyball. Wood dished out nine aces to go with his 33 assists which helped the Red Devils get a three-set sweep over Canastota on January 31.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Perry Planck, Cato-Meridian boys basketball. The Blue Devils put away Altmar-Parish-Williamstown 68-42 on January 27 led by Planck doing it all from 16 points to six steals, five assists and five rebounds.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Louden Elliott, Carthage wrestling. Elliott was the 138-pound champion improving his record to 32-4 this season and helping the Comets take the team title in the February 1 Frontier League championships at South Lewis.

The Image Press Icon: Aaliyah Zachery, Bishop Grimes girls basketball. Scoring 17 of her 19 points in the second half, Zachery helped the state Class B no. 1-ranked Cobras avenge an earlier defeat to Bishop Ludden 62-41 on January 31.

JKS Roofing High Achiever: Brendan Gruenich, New Hartford boys swimming. Gruenich’s first-place finishes in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly helped the Spartans to the team title in the February 1 Tri-Valley League championships at Rome Free Academy.

Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Robbie Clifford, East Syracuse Minoa boys basketball, hitting a 3-pointer in the final seconds to help the Spartans upend state-ranked Fulton 62-60 on January 30.

M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Alex Wilcox, Fulton girls bowling. Shooting a 657 series with a high game of 245, Wilcox led the undefeated Red Dragons to a 7-0 win over Central Square on January 28 at Lakeview Lanes.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Riley Dooley, Morrisville-Eaton boys basketball. Dooley managed 29 points and a career-best 14 steals to go with six assists as M-E defeated New York Mills 72-65 on January 29.

North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort:Brielle Nels, Homer girls wrestling. Improving to 28-7 on the season Nels won the 132-pound championship and helped the Trojans take the team title on its home mats during the Homer Lady Legacy Tournament on February 1.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Andrew Gabor, Cicero-North Syracuse ice hockey. Erupting for a career-best six points from three goals and three assists Gabor led the Northstars to a 7-4 win over Mohawk Valley on January 30.

O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Katie Schick, Altmar-Parish-Williamstown girls basketball, achieving her 1,000th career point on January 30 as part of a 32-point effort in the Rebels’ 66-58 victory over Port Byron.

110 Grill Award of Excellence: Daniel Dunn, Oswego boys indoor track and field. During the January 28 session of the George Constantino Invitational at SRC Arena Dunn finished first in both the 600 and 1,000-meter runs.

Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Chris Doshna, Marcellus wrestling. Doshna’s 215-pound championship would help the Mustangs snare the team title during the February 1 Onondaga High School League tournament at Cazenovia.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Cooper Swartz, Cortland-Homer ice hockey. Earning two goals and adding an assist, Swartz helped the Golden Eagles to a 4-1 victory over Auburn on January 30.

Senke CNY Garage Door Sensational Star: Keelyn Simpson, Utica Proctor girls indoor track and field. The Raiders won the Tri-Valley League Colonial division title January 25 as Simpson was victorious in the 1,500 and 3,000-meter runs.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Elie Jackson, Syracuse West girls basketball. Even in a 68-67 overtime defeat to Chittenango on January 31 Jackson had an astonishing performance with 48 points, 14 rebounds, five steals and three assists.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Aidan Trimper, Watertown IHC ice hockey, netting the game’s only goal as the Cavaliers edged Baldwinsville 1-0 January 29 at Fairgrounds Arena to halt the Bees’ four-game win streak.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Marcus Castine, Sackets Harbor boys basketball. The state-ranked Patriots defeated Faith Heritage 69-57 on January 31 as Castine earned a double-double of 29 points and 13 rebounds, plus three steals.
