Awards for 2/8/2025

APEX Ace Award: Kaylynne Bennett, Tully girls volleyball. Between her six aces, 15 kills and 15 digs, Bennett had a lot to do with the Black Knights beating Morrisville-Eaton in four sets in the February 7 Section III Class C quarterfinal.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Noah Bwalya, Oswego boys basketball. The Buccaneers knocked off East Syracuse Minoa 81-80 on February 5 led by Bwalya’s all-around performance of 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Paige Rider, Central Square girls indoor track and field. Rider’s victories in the high jump and triple jump propelled the Redhawks to a first-place finish in the February 7 Section III Class AA championships at SRC Arena.

The Image Press Icon: Chris Slade, Homer boys wrestling. Improving to 39-2 on the season, Slade prevailed at 190 pounds and the Trojans earned the team title on its home mats during the February 8 Section III Class B championships.

JKS Roofing High Achiever: Ean Piaschyk, Remsen boys indoor track and field. The Rams won the Section III Class D championship February 8 at SRC Arena as Remsen claimed first place in both the 3,200 and 1,600-meter runs.

Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Cora Major, Skaneateles girls ice hockey, scoring once and assisting on the other two goals as the Lakers stayed undefeated and knocked off Clinton 3-1 on February 4 at Allyn Arena.

M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Madelyn Ferris, General Brown girls basketball. Augmenting her 10 points with 17 rebounds, five assists and two steals, Ferris led the Lions to a 54-28 victory over South Jefferson on February 4.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Isaac Lynch, Camden boys basketball. In a 91-88, double-overtime victory over Oneida February 4, Lynch put up astonishing production finishing with 48 points and 17 rebounds to go with two blocks.

North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort: Matt Verri, Little Falls wrestling. The Mounties won the Section III Class D championship on February 8 as Verri, on his home mats, took top honors at 160 pounds and moved to 35-3 on the season.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Ethan Crouse, Beaver River boys bowling. Crouse bowled 879 for four games and then led the Beavers to the team title in two elimination matches on the way to the Section III Division II championship February 2 at Strike-N-Spare Lanes.

O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Brennan Kline, Baldwinsville boys wrestling, pinning New Hartford’s Jacob Hurd as time ran out to earn the 108-pound title and Most Outstanding Wrestler honors during the February 8 Section III Class AA championships at Jamesville-DeWitt.

110 Grill Award of Excellence: Emeline and Margie Barton, LaFargeville girls basketball. Combining for 30 points, the Barton sisters helped the Class D Red Knights knock off state-ranked Class A side Indian River 40-32 on February 7.

Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Olivia Maynard, Whitesboro girls volleyball. Though just 5-foot-2, Maynard had several kills and led Whitesboro to knock off Christian Brothers Academy in four sets in the February 8 Section III Class A quarterfinal.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Ryan Victoriano, Syracuse ice hockey. When the Cougars shut out Mohawk Valley 6-0 on February 7 at Meachem Rink Victoriano produced a three-goal hat trick and tacked on an assist, too.

Senke CNY Garage Door Sensational Star: Awayle Muse, PSLA Fowler boys basketball. The 4-12 Falcons knocked off state-ranked Fulton 60-55 on February 7 helped in no small part by Muse scoring 25 points, his sixth straight game of 20 or more points.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Ryan Munn, Carthage wrestling. Earning the 145-pound title, Munn helped the Comets claim first place in the team standings during the February 8 Section III Class A championships at Fulton.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Camron Ingram, Cicero-North Syracuse boys indoor track and field, setting the state record in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.18 seconds during the February 1 Ocean Breeze Invitational on Staten Island.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Juilette Zimmerman, Christian Brothers Academy girls basketball. Zimmerman’s career-best 16 points helped the Brothers upset state Class B no. 1-ranked Bishop Grimes 40-35 on February 7.
