Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Reece Jantzi, Utica Proctor boys basketball. When the Raiders knocked off previously unbeaten Cicero-North Syracuse 62-49 at Nexus Center December 30 Jantzi led his side with 19 points and played terrific defense all game, too.
Energy Savers Defensive Standout: Danny Angelina, Skaneateles boys ice hockey. Angelina was sensational in the Lakers’ 4-1 win over Williamsville East in the January 4 final of the Duke Schneider Memorial Tournament stopping 46 of the 47 shots he faced.The Image Press Icon: Maya Laribee, Lowville girls indoor track and field. With a rare combination of speed and strength Laribee was first in both the 300-meter dash and weight throw during the January 3 John DiMao Invitational at Colgate University.
JKS Roofing High Achiever: Kamryn Richards, New Hartford girls basketball. the Spartans rallied in the fourth quarter to surprise Bishop Ludden 58-57 on December 28 at the Nexus Center led by Richards earning 16 points and five assists. Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Nolan Wood, Vernon Verona-Sherrill boys volleyball, notching his 40th assist in the fifth set of the Red Devils’ match against archrival Oneida on January 3 eventually leading VVS to the win.M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Calvin Jacquays, Central Valley Academy boys basketball. Netting 18 points, Jacquays helped the Thunder close out 2024 well with a 50-33 victory over South Jefferson on December 30.
Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Andrew Juliano, Holland Patent wrestling. A perfect 18-0 this season Juliano’s 108-pound victory helped the Golden Knights edge host Central Valley Academy for team honors in the January 4 Leo J. Sammon Tournament.
North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort: Katelyn Schick, Altmar-Parish-Williamstown girls basketball. The surprising Rebels are 6-2 and Schick showed why with 25 points, six rebounds and four steals carrying APW past Canastota 45-34 on December 30.
Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Katelyn Davis, East Syracuse Minoa girls volleyball. The Spartans won a five-set battle over Tully on January 2 and Davis had much to do with it with a team-best 21 kills to go with 12 digs and five aces.
O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Siyir Price, PSLA Fowler boys indoor track and field, going 8.17 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles and clearing 5 feet 10 inches in the high jump to win both events in the January 3 George Constantino Memorial at SRC Arena. 110 Grill Award of Excellence: Chris Nichols, Solvay boys basketball. Breaking out with 26 points plus four assists and two steals, Nichols helped the Bearcats roar past Fabius-Pompey 84-58 on January 3. Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Rowan Dawes, Clinton boys indoor track and field. The Comets won team honors at the John DiMao Memorial January 3 at Colgate University as Dawes cleared 11 feet in the pole vault and also finished third in the long jump.Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Mason Naumann, Oswego ice hockey. The Buccaneers’ remarkable season continued with an 8-3 victory over Auburn January 2 at Crisafulli Rink as Naumann led in points thanks to a goal and three assists.
Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Alainees Leon, Liverpool girls indoor track and field. By winning the pole vault clearing 8 feet 3 inches Leon helped Liverpool to the team title in the January 3 George Constantino Memorial at SRC Arena
University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Ahmed Ashkar, Cicero-North Syracuse boys wrestling pinning Penfield’s Sam Mulligan to clinch a 41-26 victory and a perfect 4-0 mark for the Northstars during the January 4 Dave Darrow Duals at Cortland High School.
Wilkins RV Winning Player: Adrianna Izzo, Little Falls girls basketball. Notching 24 points, six steals and five assists Izzo helped the Mounties outscore Holland Patent 60-52 on January 3 for its eighth consecutive victory.
