Awards for 1/18/2025

APEX Ace Award: Vincenzo Geloso, Central Valley Academy boys volleyball. Geloso’s 20 kills,  seven blocks and five digs helped the Thunder halt Chittenango’s 23-match win streak as it prevailed in five sets on January 14.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Miles Nelen, Cooperstown boys basketball. When the Hawkeyes routed Hamilton 73-45 in a clash of undefeated Class C powers on January 13 Nelen was at the forefront, leading the team with 20 points and dishing out eight assists.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Eugene Renzi, South Jefferson boys swimming. Renzi’s first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle led the Spartans past Watertown 95-84 in a January 14 Frontier League showdown.

The Image Press Icon: Haley Parker, General Brown girls volleyball. The Lions won a five-set battle against Thousand Islands on January 17 with Parker doing close to everything as she got seven kills, 10 assists, five aces and six digs.

JKS Roofing High Achiever: Zaria Spratt, Utica Academy of Science girls basketball. With her 15 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks and three assists Spratt led the Atoms as it beat Sauquoit Valley 47-42 on January 16.

Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Reilly Anderson, Fayetteville-Manlius boys basketball, sinking a 3-pointer with five seconds to complete the Hornets’ come-from-behind, 48-47 victory over West Genesee on January 16.

M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Brodie McGregor, Watertown IHC ice hockey. McGregor turned back 35 of the 36 shots he faced and helped carry the Cavaliers to a 5-1 victory over Fayetteville-Manlius on January 14 at Cicero Twin Rinks.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Siyir Price, PSLA Fowler boys indoor track and field. Price was victorious in the 55-meter hurdles and long jump during the January 18 session of the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial at SRC Arena.

North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort: Connor McEwen, Fulton wrestling. Competing at 215 pounds, McEwen was the Outstanding Wrestler as the Red Dragons swept all of its opposition during the January 18 Akley Duals at Oswego.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Samantha Massey, Mount Markham girls wrestling. Massey was victorious at 94 pounds to move to 27-1 on the season during the January 13 Eastern State Championships.

O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Mia Wright, Liverpool girls indoor track and field, edging Fulton’s Olivia Hendricksen in a dead heat (both finished in 7.56 seconds) and helping Liverpool to the team title in the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial January 18 at SRC Arena.

110 Grill Award of Excellence: Landon Andrade, Sherburne-Earlville wrestling. Andrade’s 285-pound title would help S-E ultimately grab the team championship during the January 11 Cazenovia Invitational as he improved to 21-2 this season.

Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Tucker Burnett, Marcellus boys basketball. The Mustangs knocked Bishop Ludden from the unbeaten ranks 54-53 on January 17 led by Burnett’s all-around effort of 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Emmit Porter, Cicero-North Syracuse ice hockey. Porter landed a three-goal hat trick and led the Northstars past Baldwinsville 5-1 on January 16 two days after a goal and two assists keyed a 3-2 overtime win over Syracuse.

Senke CNY Garage Door Sensational Star: Sophia Chemotti, Bishop Ludden girls basketball. Chemotti had 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals as the Gaelic Knights rolled past Westhill 60-34 on January 14.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Addison Lazarek, Sauquoit Valley girls indoor track and field. Lazarek prevailed in both the long jump (17 feet 1 1/2 inches) and triple jump (37’1″) during the January 18 Art McKinnon Meet at SRC Arena.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Zenon Gasiorowski, Baldwinsville boys bowling, throwing the first 300 game of his career as part of a 751 series which helped the Bees defeat Cicero-North Syracuse 5-2 on January 16 at Strike-N-Spare Lanes.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Danny Casatelli, Waterville boys indoor track and field. During the January 18 Art McKinnon Meet at SRC Arena Casatelli dominated the distance races winning both the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs.
