Awards for 10/12/2024

Atlas Fence All-Star: Jon Shoults, West Genesee Gold boys golf. Shooting a 75 at Drumlins Country Club, Shoults not only took the individual title in the Section III large-school fall tournament, he also helped the Wildcats claim the team championship by a 21-shot margin over Fayetteville-Manlius Green.

Attilios Ace Award: Amelia Hahn, Baldwinsville girls volleyball. All that Hahn did in consecutive five-set victories over Cicero-North Syracuse October 8 and Liverpool two days later was put up a combined 39 kills and 29 digs, adding four blocks and four aces against the Warriors.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Gavin Harper, Lowville football. Between his 15 tackles and a third-quarter touchdown, Harper did plenty to help Lowville improve to 4-2 on the season with an impressive 39-7 victory over Lowville on October 10.

CNY Sealing and Paving Defensive Standout: Charles Carbonaro, Skaneateles boys soccer. When the Lakers forged a 0-0 draw with state Class B no. 3-ranked Westhill on October 10, Carbonaro made sure the Warriors never got on the board, stopping all eight shots he faced.

Ethan Allen Award of Excellence: Avery Rich, Central Valley Academy girls soccer. The Thunder are now 12-3 on the season, having rolled past Camden 5-1 on October 10 as Rich had a part in more than half the scoring plays with her two goals and one assist.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: Evelyn Jones, Jamesville-DeWitt girls swimming. All Jones did in the Red Rams’ 100-83 win over previously unbeaten Fayetteville-Manlius on October 8 was sweep to first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle in 26.94 seconds and 100 freestyle in 58.22.

The Image Press Icon: Nathan Geroux, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill boys cross country. In a time of 17 minutes 8.7 seconds Geroux took individual honors and also led the Red Devils to the team championship at its own invitational meet held on October 12.

Little York Plantation Play of the Week: John Sindoni, Liverpool football, throwing a 73-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Rivera in the fourth quarter of an October 10 game at West Genesee, the crucial late-game blow in the Warriors’ eventual 35-32 win over the Wildcats.

M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Ava Beebe, Watertown girls soccer. Beebe made the difference for the Cyclones in its tough 2-1 win over South Jefferson in an October 8 Frontier League showdown, facing 12 Spartans shots for the game and turning back 11 of them.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Izzy McMahon, Rome Free Academy field hockey. In a rematch of last year’s Section III Class A championship game McMahon’s two goals and one assist helped the Black Knights handle Cicero-North Syracuse 5-1 on October 9.

North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort: Ryan Sullivan, East Syracuse Minoa boys volleyball. When the Spartans took a four-set decision over Fayetteville-Manlius October 7 Sullivan was a standout on the front line, earning 10 kills and adding five blocks.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Kuchaun Gorman, Jordan-Elbridge football. Setting a new career mark with 220 yards on 18 carries with three touchdowns, Gorman helped the Eagles outscore Altmar-Parish-Williamstown 44-28 on October 12.

O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Dante Melfi, Cicero-North Syracuse boys soccer, taking a pass from Ryan Frisch and earning the overtime goal which helped the Northstars upset state Class AAA  no. 4-ranked Fayetteville-Manlius 1-0 on October 8.

Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Abby Ringwood, Auburn girls cross country. Ringwood had a fourth-place individual finish in the Maroons’ 27-29 win over Fayetteville-Manlius October 9 and then helped her team take third overall in the Manhattan Invitational.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Madden Cobb, Cazenovia girls tennis. Cobb swept all three singles matches she played in straight sets to help the Lakers top Skaneateles, Marcellus and Lowville to repeat as Section III Class C team champions.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Tyquanne Harris, Institute of Technology Central football. When the Eagles rolled past Chittenango 26-14 on October 11 Harris completed just five passes out of 11, but they added up to 205 yards and included a touchdown.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Peyton Hoang and Sage Hanafin, Oneida girls tennis, winning in three sets over Wenyon Ma and Anna Hasegawa to help the Express edge Jamesville-DeWitt 4-3 on October 10 and claim another Section III Class B team championship.

Upstate Urology Upstart: Nakeshia McCoy, Little Falls field hockey. After McCoy scored twice in a 7-0 win over Sauquoit Valley October 7 she put in one of the goals to help the Center State Conference-leading Mounties edge past Canastota 2-1 three days later .

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Maryna Harrod, Frankfort-Schuyler girls soccer. The Maroon Knights stood at 11-2 partly as a result of a tense 3-2 win over Cooperstown on October 8 where Harrod managed to score two of her team’s three goals.
