Awards for 10/19/2024

Atlas Fence All-Star: Bobby Livingston, Cazenovia football. Accounting for more than 400 combined yards through the air and on the ground, Livingston was the driving force as the Lakers handed 6-0 Marcellus its first defeat of the season by a 47-38 margin on October 18.

Attilios Ace Award: Jack DeForge, Liverpool boys volleyball. The Warriors defeated East Syracuse Minoa in four tight sets on October 18 helped in no small part by DeForge’s power at the net as he put together 17 kills and three blocks to go with a pair of service aces.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Logan Fitzgerald, Mexico boys cross country. With a time of 16 minutes 59.2 seconds, Fitzgerald finished third overall and led the Tigers to the team title in the Green division of the inaugural Marcellus Invitational October 19 at Marcellus Park.

CNY Sealing and Paving Defensive Standout: Alice Bender, Westhill girls volleyball. Long the defensive heart of her team, Bender picked up another 24 digs to help Westhill roll past Indian River in three sets on October 19 and pass the 200-dig mark for the season.

Ethan Allen Award of Excellence: Natalie Herzog, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill ice hockey. Herzog put up four goals after having just six all season as the Red Devils dominated its game against archrival Oneida on October 16, prevailing by a 6-0 margin.

The Image Press Icon: Sophia Watkins, Central Valley Academy girls soccer. The Thunder finished the regular season 13-3 and defeated Oneida 6-1 on October 17 with a big effort from Watkins, who netted a pair of goals and also picked up an assist.

Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Ellie Roberts, South Jefferson girls cross country, going 19 minutes 11.4 seconds to win the Frontier League individual championship October 15, the eighth-grader also leading the Spartans to the team title as well.

M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Sam Bienvenue, Nottingham boys soccer. A 16-0 regular season for the Bulldogs concluded October 17 with a 4-0 shutout of Central Square fueled by Bienvenue’s skill that included two goals and one assist.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Raiyah Patterson, Utica Proctor girls soccer. Patterson poured in four goals and tacked on an assist, all of which helped carry the Raiders past Oneida 7-3 in Tri-Valley League action on October 15.

North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort: Matthew Smith, Auburn football. Smith’s eight carries, 132 yards and three touchdowns were part of a productive Maroons ground attack as it handled Watertown 49-13 on October 17 to move to 6-1 on the season.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Alexis Dashno, Central Square gymnastics. When the Redhawks pulled out a 124.05-118.90 decision over East Syracuse Minoa/Liverpool on October 15, Dashno led the way by earning an all-around score of 33.6 capped by a 9.25 floor exercise routine.

O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Kaylee French, Oneida girls tennis, defeating Leah Bell in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 to earn the decisive point as the Express edged Cazenovia 3-2 in the Section III Division II state qualifying match on October 19.

Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Luke Snyder, Christian Brothers Academy boys golf. Snyder led the Brothers to the Onondaga High School League fall tournament team title October 17 at Beaver Meadows shooting a one-over-par 73 to tie for the individual championship.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Jocelyn Turshman, Cincinnatus girls soccer. The Lions completed an undefeated (16-0) regular season routing Brookfield 8-0 on October 18 as Turshman was at the forefront of a well-balanced attack with two goals and one assist.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Cameryn Brundage, Port Byron/Union Springs field hockey. When the Panthers roared its way to a 7-1 victory over New York Mills on October 15, Brundage was front and center with a three-goal hat trick plus two assists.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Kayla McQuaid, Jamesville-DeWitt girls swimming, picking up 457.90 points in the diving competition to beat the field and prevail again in the October 19 Burgos Diving Invitational at Nottingham High School.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Norah Beier, Syracuse City girls swimming. Beier’s first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle helped Syracuse defeat Oswego 93-84 on October 15 to claim its first head-to-head meet victory of the season.
