APEX Ace Award: Lucy Bliss, Cazenovia girls volleyball. When the Lakers handed Bishop Grimes its first defeat of the season in a five-set thriller on October 23 Bliss was dominant on the back line amassing 38 assists and adding 15 digs to go with three aces and three blocks.
Atlas Fence All-Star: Molly Dickinson, Watertown girls swimming. Dickinson swept to wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle and helped the Cyclones also take the 200 and 400 freestyle relays on the way to the team title at the October 26 Frontier League championships.
Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Gabriel Wheeler, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill football. Wheeler ran for three touchdowns, including a 70-yard dash, all of which the Red Devils needed to pull out a 30-28 win over Camden on October 25.
The Image Press Icon: Isabella Hobin, Holland Patent girls soccer. Hobin managed to stop all 11 shots she faced and made the difference for the Golden Knights as it defeated Westhill 1-0 in the Section III Class B quarterfinal on October 24.
JKS Roofing High Achiever: Jeadi Higdon, Corcoran football. When the Cougars shut out East Syracuse Minoa 40-0 on October 25, Higdon carried the ball just six times but gained 195 yards and scored touchdowns on both offense and with a 43-yard punt return.
Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Kayla Flask, Weedsport field hockey, scoring in the overtime period to help the Wolves battle past Morrisville-Eaton 1-0 in the October 26 Section III Class D semifinals and advance to the championship game against Clinton.
M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Smareen Mangat and Sadie Toole, Fayetteville-Manlius girls tennis. From a no. 4 seed Mangat and Toole rose all the way to the championship of the Section III state qualifying tournament beating teammates Shreya Bhattacharya and Lindsey Chong in the finals.
Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Danny Casatelli, Waterville boys cross country. In a time of 16 minutes 42.6 seconds Casatelli beat the field and claimed the individual title in the October 26 Center State Conference championships at Westmoreland.
North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort: Elyza Smith, LaFargeville girls soccer. The Red Knights shut out Remsen 4-0 in the October 27 Section III Class D quarterfinals led mostly by Smith, who notched three of her team’s goals to earn a hat trick.
Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Cameron Cappetta, Solvay football. Throwing a trio of touchdown passes, Cappetta allowed the Bearcats to diversify its offense from earlier in the season and hold on and defeat Southern Hills 32-28 on October 26.
O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Julia Makuszak, New Hartford gymnastics, scoring 9.50 on the vault to win that individual apparatus and lead the Spartans to its 12th consecutive Section III team championship on October 25 at Valley Gymnastics.
110 Grill Award of Excellence: Samantha Ferguson, Westmoreland girls soccer. Earning a goal and assist, Ferguson helped the Bulldogs end the three-year reign of Sauquoit Valley as Section III Class C champions with a 2-0 win in the October 24 sectional quarterfinals.
Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Kellen Conway, Liverpool boys volleyball. All that Conway did in a week that included wins over Cicero-North Syracuse and Syracuse City for the Warriors was surpass the total of 1,000 career assists.
Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Analyce Grabowski, West Canada Valley girls swimming. With 228.10 points Grabowski won the diving competition at the October 26 Tri-Valley League championships and, for good measure, also took second place in the 50-yard freestyle.
Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Alyssa Boneau, Canastota field hockey. The Raiders survived a 1-0 double-overtime battle with Mount Markham in the Section III Class C semifinal on October 26 largely based on the great work of Boneau, who stopped all 12 shots she faced.
University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Mona Farah, Jamesville-DeWitt girls tennis, defeating Baldwinsville’s Mira Nadzan in straight sets to win the singles championship in the Section III state qualifying tournament on October 24.
Wilkins RV Winning Player: Jacob Moore, Dolgeville football. It took Moore’s 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to secure the clinching points in the undefeated Blue Devils’ toughest test to date, a 30-22 victory over Mount Markham on October 25.
