Awards for 1/24/2026

APEX Amazing Athlete: Cora Wheeler, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill girls indoor track and field. Wheeler won both the 55-meter dash and long jump during the January 22 Tri-Valley League Pioneer division championship meet at Utica University.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Shane Maxon, Herkimer boys indoor track and field. During the January 22 Center State Conference championships at Utica University Maxon swept to first-place finishes in both the long jump and triple jump.

B&B Lumber Big Mover: Mark Varano, Rome Free Academy, Rome Free Academy ice hockey. Earning two goals and an assist Varano helped the Black Knights go on the road and beat Baldwinsville 4-0 on January 22 at Three Rivers Athletic Complex.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Carlena Wallace, Fabius-Pompey girls basketball. The Falcons fought off Pulaski 41-35 on January 22 in large part due to Wallace carrying the attack and finishing with 24 points.

Clifton Recycling Rewarding Effort: Wyatt Watson, Fulton boys basketball. Watson’s double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds plus five assists helped the Red Dragons earn a 77-63 victory over Central Square on January 24.

CNY Softwash & Pressure Washing Superstar: Travis Stack, Marcellus wrestling. Stack’s trio of pins in his 215-pound bouts helped the Mustangs sweep to the Section III Division II Dual Meet championship on January 19 at Indian River.

Fire Brothers Red-Hot Performance: Jaiden Maher, Remsen girls volleyball. The Rams pulled out a five-set victory over Morrisville-Eaton on January 22 with Maher dominant at the net as she finished with 17 kills and eight blocks.

F.W. Webb Winning Effort: Chris Koegel, Cicero-North Syracuse boys swimming. Scoring 478.70 points Koegel took first-place honors in the January 24 Burgos Memorial Dive Invitational on January 24 at Nottingham High School.

The Image Press Icon: Chris Nichols, Solvay boys basketball. Nichols picked up 22 points and helped the Bearcats pull out a 71-68 overtime victory over Jordan-Elbridge on January 23.

Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Xavier Pawlowski, Whitesboro boys indoor track and field, completing a sprint sweep by taking the 300-meter dash to go with a 55-meter dash title during the January 22 Tri-Valley League championship meet.

Mabey’s Moving and Storage Major Mover: Kadence Barton, Waterville girls track and field. Along with a 300-meter dash victory in the January 22 Center State Conference championships, Barton also was victorious in the long jump going 17 feet 1 1/2 inches.

Mirbeau Inn and Spa Megastar:  Easton Metz, Westmorleand boys volleyball. When the Bulldogs pulled out a five-set victory over Canastota on January 20 Metz dished out 32 assists and also earned 16 digs.

M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Kayden Davidson, Dolgeville girls basketball. Davidson picked up 32 points and added 11 rebounds which helped the Blue Devils get a 64-43 victory over Cooperstown on January 20.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Edward Wright, Oriskany boys basketball. Wright surpassed 1,000 career points in a win over Sherburne-Earlville and then had the game-winning basket at the horn to defeat Hamilton two nights later.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Sydney Cox, Onondaga girls basketball. Cox gained 27 points, five rebounds and four blocks helping the Tigers roll to a 73-41 victory over LaFayette on January 20.

O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Jacob Upcraft, Mexico boys swimming, taking the 100-yard backstroke right after helping the Tigers win the 200 freestyle relay on the way to a first-place finish in the January 24 Frontier League championship meet.

Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Joe Gardner, East Syracuse Minoa boys bowling. Gardner became the second Spartans bowler in as many weeks to roll a 300 game doing so January 21 in the course of his team’s 7-0 win over Fulton.

Potter and Perone Special Performance: Kristen Combs, Homer girls bowling. The Trojans gave Chittenango its first defeat of the season 7-0 on January 22 as Combs led the way with a 508 series and high game of 181.

Premier Hardwood Premier Player: Owen Jones, Mount Markham boys basketball. Jones worked his way to 32 points and six rebounds as the Mustangs claimed a 77-74 thriller over Faith Heritage on January 21.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Mason Donabella, Oswego boys ice hockey. When the Buccaneers defeated Auburn 3-1 on January 22 at Casey Park Donabell had a part in all of his team’s scoring plays finishing with a goal and two assists.

Rockbridge Investment Management Risk Taker: Robert Huntley, Sauquoit Valley boys volleyball. Despite the Hawks’ five-set defeat to Vernon-Verona-Sherrill on January 24 Huntley was spectacular at the net earning 33 kills and six blocks.

Senke CNY Garage Door Sensational Star: Gracie Sleeth, Liverpool girls basketball. Sleeth led the way with 15 points as the Legends avenged an earlier defeat to Cicero-North Syracuse by a score of 49-42 on January 22.

Sierson Crane and Welding Superstar: Sean Ringwood, Auburn boys indoor track and field. Ringwood claimed the 1,000-meter run and helped in the 4×800 relay as the Maroons prevailed in the January 23 session of the Bob Grieve Memorial at SRC Arena.

Top Notch Roofing Top Star: Lillian Cota, South Jefferson girls indoor track and field. Cota won the 300 and 600-meter events and took second in the 55-meter dash during the January 24 session of the Bob Grieve Memorial at SRC Arena.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Zach Pettitt, Carthage wrestling, defeating West Genesee’s Santino Sanford in a technical fall to clinch the Comets’ 39-27 win and the Section III Division I Dual Meet title on January 22 at Indian River.

U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Nick Doyle, Holland Patent boys basketball. With 25 points and seven assists Doyle helped lead the Golden Knights to a 90-44 victory over Oneida on January 22.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Jules Otis, Utica Notre Dame girls basketball. The unbeaten, state Class A no. 1-ranked Jugglers put away Bishop Ludden-Grimes 88-50 on January 22 with Otis stepping up to get 17 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Wonder Windows Winning Performance: Luke Bobbett, Skaneateles boys ice hockey. Bobbett’s three-goal hat trick led the Lakers to a 4-3 victory at New Hartford on January 23 which avenged a December defeat to the Spartans.
