Awards for 1/17/2026

APEX Amazing Athlete: Howard Wright, Onondaga boys basketball. With 30 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals Wright led the Tigers to a 53-40 victory over LaFayette on January 14.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Stella Roes, Carthage girls basketball. The Comets defeated General Brown 45-33 on January 16 with great defense from Roes who accumulated 11 steals to go with her team-high 18 points.

B&B Lumber Big Mover: Ashlee Fisher, New Hartford girls volleyball. Fisher picked up 20 kills and piled up 32 digs to help the Spartans with a clash of unbeaten sides with Rome Free Academy in four sets on January 15.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Gionna Allen, Fulton girls wrestling. Allen was a perfect 6-0 for her team at 114 pounds and helped the Red Dragons sweep all seven opponents it faced at its own dual meet on January 17.

Clifton Recycling Rewarding Effort: Tennison Ennis, Indian River boys wrestling. The Hawks were a perfect 5-0 in the January 17 Akley Duals at Oswego led by Ennis who won all five of his bouts at 150 and 157 pounds.

CNY Softwash & Pressure Washing Superstar: Marcus Chang, Lowville boys swimming. Even though the Red Raiders lost 54-47 to Watertown on January 16 Chang was victorious in both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle races.

Fire Brothers Red-Hot Performance: Kylah Bednar, Cicero-North Syracuse girls basketball. Bednar stepped up with 17 points and helped the Northstars knock off state Class AAA no. 5-ranked Baldwinsville 59-45 on January 15.

F.W. Webb Winning Effort: Chris Hermitt, Mexico boys basketball. The Tigers got a 73-56 victory at Cazenovia on January 13 with Hermitt doing everything from 29 points to 13 rebounds, three blocks, four steals and four assists.

The Image Press Icon: Andrew Lee, Central Valley Academy boys volleyball. Lee accumulated 18 kills, 16 digs, three assists and three blocks which helped the Thunder defeat Chittenango in four sets on January 15.

Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Baldwinsville girls indoor track and field team’s 4×800 relay team of Yolanda Wei, Madelyn Donhauser, Emmy Buchanan and Kamryn Barton getting the victory against a large statewide field in the January 17 Jack Reed High School Showcase in Rochester.

Mabey’s Moving and Storage Major Mover: Logan Sheriff, Southern Hills boys wrestling. Improving to 27-2 on the season Sheriff was victorious at 157 pounds during the January 17 Red Devil Invitational at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill.

Mirbeau Inn and Spa Megastar:  Gavin and Collin Aceto, Whitesboro ice hockey. When Whitesboro pulled out a 3-2 decision over Clinton 3-2 on January 16 at Clinton Arena Gavin finished with two goals and Collin picked up two assists.

M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Brody Smith, Cato-Meridian boys basketball. Nearly getting a triple-double, Smith’s 16 points, 20 rebounds and nine blocks were part of the Blue Devils’ 67-54 win over Faith Heritage on January 14.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Katelyn Schick, Altmar-Parish-Williamstown girls basketball. Schick’s 23 points, six rebounds and five steals helped the Rebels top Watertown 44-32 on January 17 in the Fayetteville-Manlius Tournament.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Grace Tarby, Chittenango girls bowling. Shooting a 454 series, Tarby helped the undefeated Bears move to 8-0 on the season with a 5-2 victory over Weedsport on January 15.

O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Cazenovia ice hockey scoring a program-record seven unanswered goals in the second period of its January 16 game against CBA/Jamesville-DeWitt at Onondaga Nation Arena on its way to a 9-2 victory.

Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Sophia Spencer, Owen D. Young girls volleyball. Spencer finished with 31 assists and 10 digs helping the Wildcats battle to a five-set victory over Remsen on January 17.

Potter and Perone Special Performance: Nathan Freebern, Oswego boys wrestling. Freebern won the 144-pound division defeating Whitesboro’s Ethan Roser 10-7 during the January 10 Cazenovia Invitational.

Premier Hardwood Premier Player: Pearl Jewett, General Brown girls wrestling. Jewett was victorious at 100 pounds over Emma Ende improving to 20-1 on the season and helping the Lions beat Indian River 38-25 on January 14.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Drew Schneider, Syracuse ice hockey. Schneider scored six goals in three games, all Cougars wins, in a five-day span from January 13 to 17 including a hat trick to carry Syracuse past Cazenovia 3-2.

Rockbridge Investment Management Risk Taker: Cameron Cleveland, Hamilton girls basketball. Cleveland pulled down 27 rebounds to go with her 26 points helping the Emerald Knights roll past Cooperstown 74-45 on January 16.

Senke CNY Garage Door Sensational Star: Bryce Spaulding, Copenhagen boys basketball. The Gold Knights ripped past Poland 64-31 on January 12 with Spaulding unstoppable as he picked up 34 points to go with five steals.

Sierson Crane and Welding Superstar: Makayla Barron, Skaneateles girls ice hockey. Barron’s two goals and assist helped the Lakers move to 8-1 on the season with a 3-1 victory over Ithaca on January 14.

Top Notch Roofing Top Star: Maddie Coe, Sandy Creek girls volleyball. Accumulating 38 assists plus three aces, Coe was the catalyst for the Comets as it cruised past General Brown January 16 in a three-set sweep.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Alex Locke, East Syracuse Minoa boys bowling, throwing a 300 game at Strike-N-Spare Lanes as part of a 730 series in the Spartans’ 7-0 shutout of Auburn on January 13.

U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Landon Derbyshire, West Genesee boys indoor track and field. Derbyshire had a second-place throw of 53 feet 5 3/4 inches during the shot put in the January 17 Jack Reed High School Showcase in Rochester.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Russell Hazard, South Jefferson boys basketball. Jefferson picked up 24 points which was pivotal for the Spartans in defeating Indian River 54-44 on January 16.

Wonder Windows Winning Performance: Adrianna Izzo, Little Falls girls basketball. The Mounties defeated Richfield Springs 54-50 on January 12 needing every bit of Izzo’s production as she got 27 points.
