Awards for 6/1/2024

Atlas Fence All-Star: Shane Maxon, Herkimer boys track and field. Earning 3,226 points, Maxon edged South Jefferson’s James King by 39 points to prevail in the pentathlon in the May 31 Section III state qualifying meet at Cicero-North Syracuse.

Attilios Ace Award: Eddie Wright, Oriskany baseball. Wright amassed 14 strikeouts and only allowed two hits to help Oriskany shut out Lyme 8-0 on May 29 and win another Section III Class D championship.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Anna Congelli, Tully girls track and field. Congelli’s time of four minutes, 49.79 seconds in the 1,500-meter run beat the field, large and small schools alike, in the May 31 Section III state qualifying meet at Cicero-North Syracuse

CNY Sealing and Paving Defensive Standout: Jake Berthoff, Liverpool boys lacrosse. Just a sophomore, Berthoff anchored a Warriors back line that turned back Baldwinsville in a 7-5 victory May 30 at Fulton that produced a Section III Class A championship.

Ethan Allen Award of Excellence: Anna Bednarz, Fulton girls lacrosse. Bednarz’s four goals, including the game-winner with less than a minute left in regulation, pushed the Red Dragons past Indian River 10-9 at SUNY-Cortland May 29 to win the Section III Class C championship.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: Tanner Trust, Pulaski baseball. The Blue Devils beat Mount Markham 5-3 for the Section III Class C championship May 30 at Onondaga Community College as Trust led the offense with three hits and three RBIs.

The Image Press Icon: Jay-Neil McDuffie, East Syracuse Minoa boys track and field. McDuffie won the 110 high hurdles and long jump and helped the Spartans take the 4×100 relay during the May 31 Section III state qualifying meet at Cicero-North Syracuse.

M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Julia Hollister, Sandy Creek softball. Hollister’s three hits and two run scored set the pace for the Comets as it pulled away from Altmar-Parish-Williamstown 10-2 at Carrier Park May 30 to win the Section III Class C championship.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Talon Elkins, West Genesee baseball. It was Elkins’ complete game with 10 strikeouts that pushed the Wildcats past Whitesboro 2-1 on May 26 in the Section III Class AA final and produced the program’s first sectional title in 47 years.

North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort: Jackson Saroney, Jamesville-DeWitt boys golf. Shooting a one-under-part 143, Saroney prevailed by seven shots for the individual title in the May 24-25 Section III state qualifying tournament at Seven Oaks.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence:  Myah Matice, Sackets Harbor softball. Matice’s home run proved a highlight for the Patriots as it prevailed 7-3 over top seed Cincinnatus at Carrier Park May 30 and won the Section III Class D championship.

Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Nolan Bellotti, West Genesee boys lacrosse. Bellotti’s five goals and two assists keyed the Wildcats repeating as Section III Class B champions on May 30 by defeating Watertown 16-7.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Cooper Marko, Christian Brothers Academy baseball. Marko’s three-run double in the sixth inning proved the turning point as the Brothers beat Cicero-North Syracuse 8-3 on May 26 to win the Section III Class AAA championship.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Casey Clausen, Whitesboro softball. Clausen had a single, double and three RBIs as Whitesboro handled West Genesee 6-1 and won the Section III Class AA championship May 30 at Carrier Park.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Luke Walker, Jamesville-DeWitt baseball, driving in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Red Rams defeated Camden 6-5 on May 29 and repeated as Section III Class A champions.

Upstate Urology Upstart: Jordan O’Connor, Marcellus softball. O’Connor’s groundout drove in the first run and ultimately helped the Mustangs beat Utica Notre Dame 2-1 for the Section III Class B championship May 30 at Carrier Park.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Camryn Shenk, Camden softball. Shenk’s two hits were part of a 9-3 win over New Hartford that produced the Section III Class A championship May 31 and a day later she hit a home run when the Blue Devils beat Franklin Academy 14-2 in the regional round a day later.
