Awards for 5/27/2023

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Kameryn Yerman, Sauquoit Valley girls golf. It was Yerman earning the individual title during the Section III championship May 24 at Kanon Valley Country Club, shooting an 82 to beat the field by four strokes.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Scott Scherrer, Skaneateles baseball. Scherrer pitched a complete game and got a shutout after the first inning as the Lakers knocked off unbeaten top seed South Jefferson 4-2 May 25 in the Section III Class B quarterfinals.

Empower Federal Credit Union Rewarding Effort: Everett Chambala, Tully boys track and field. Chambala’s victories in the 110 high hurdles and 400 hurdles led the Black Knights to the Section III Class C-2 championship on May 24.

Ethan Allen Award of Excellence:  Mark Bratslvasky, Jamesville-DeWitt boys tennis. Bratslavsky earned the singles championship during the Section III state qualifying tournament and helped his team reach the state large-school team tournament, too.

Fitness Forum/Ultimate Goal/Sports 481 Fabulous Effort: Ravan Marsell, Indian River girls lacrosse. Earning seven assists to go with her four goals, Marsell led Indian River past Carthage 18-7 in the May 25 Section III Class C semifinal.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: Chris Doshna, Marcellus boys lacrosse. Besides his two goals and two assists, Doshna picked up 14 ground balls that helped the Mustangs oust LaFayette 12-9 in the May 26 Section III Class C semifinal.

JKS Roofing Super Standout: Ella and Erin Trinkaus, Utica Notre Dame softball. Ella drove in two runs and Erin pitched as the Jugglers upset unbeaten, top-seeded Camden 3-1 in the May 25 Section III Class B quarterfinals.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Alyssa Youngs, West Canada Valley girls track and field. Youngs won twice and was second in another event as West Canada won the Section III Class D championship on May 26.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Lexi Rydelek, West Genesee softball. Rydelek’s pair of home runs keyed a 4-0 victory over Auburn for the Wildcats in the May 24 Section III Class AA quarterfinal.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Jake Oleraczyk, Holland Patent boys golf. Shooting a two-round total of 156 at Seven Oaks, Oleraczyk was the individual medalist in the Section III state qualifying tournament on May 24 and 26.

Revitalize! CNY Rewarding Performance: Andrew Hicks and Spencer Ingmire, Oneida boys tennis. Hicks and Ingmire were the doubles champions during the Section III state qualifying tournament held May 23 and 25.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Vanessa Trumble, Pulaski girls track and field. The Blue Devils won the Section III Class C-2 championship May 23 as Trumble took first in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and high jump.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Joe Federico, East Syracuse Minoa baseball, driving home the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning as the Spartans knocked off top seed Whitesboro 4-3 in the May 25 Section III Class AA quarterfinal.

Upstate Urology Upstart: Nicole Namisiniak, Port Byron softball. When the Panthers upset top seed Jordan-Elbridge in the May 25 Section III Class C quarterfinal, Namisiniak pitched a complete game, tripled, walked twice and scored twice.

U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Connor Dean, Camden boys track and field. Dean was the top individual in the May 25 Section III Class B-1 championships, winning the 400-meter dash along with the long jump and high jump.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Danielle Swietoniowski, Auburn girls lacrosse. The Maroons beat Fayetteville-Manlius 11-9 in the Section III Class B semifinal on May 25 led by Swietoniowski earning five goals and an assist.

Zero Draft Defensive Standout: Owen Salanger, Liverpool boys lacrosse. Earning eight saves, Salanger needed all of them to help Liverpool edge Cicero-North Syracuse 8-7 in the May 26 Section III Class A semifinals.
