Awards for 6/3/2023

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Bella Hotchkiss, Baldwinsville softball. Hotchkiss pitched a complete game and drove in three runs to help the Bees defeat Liverpool 9-4 on May 31 and win its first-ever Section III Class AA championship.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Evan Molloy and Max Reger, Cazenovia boys tennis. Molloy and Reger’s victory was part of a 5-0 shutout by the Lakers over Plattsburgh in the Division II regional final on May 30.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Chase Regan, Little Falls baseball. Between his complete game on the mound and two RBIs at the plate, Regan led the Mounties past Bishop Ludden 6-1 to earn the Section III Class C championship on May 30.

Empower Federal Credit Union Rewarding Effort: Gannon Kessler, Jamesville-DeWitt boys lacrosse. The Red Rams beat Westhill 12-10 in the Section III Class C championship game May 31 led by Kessler’s four goals and one assist.

Ethan Allen Award of Excellence:  Sierra Natoli, Baldwinsville girls lacrosse. Natoli’s three goals and one assist led the Bees past Cicero-North Syracuse 18-11 for the Section III Class A championship on May 30.

Fitness Forum/Ultimate Goal/Sports 481 Fabulous Effort: Melia Couchman, Herkimer girls track and field. Couchman cleared 11 feet to beat all other competitors in the pole vault during the June 1 Section III state qualifying meet.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: Riddick Robinson, Living Word Academy boys track and field. In the shot put at the June 1 Section III state qualifying meet, Robinson had the top throw of 51 feet 6 1/2 inches.

JKS Roofing Super Standout:  Patrick Herr, Skaneateles baseball. The Lakers outlasted Cortland 10-9 in 10 innings in the Section III Class B semifinal on May 27 when Herr drove in the go-ahead runs with a two-run single in the top of the 10th.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Michaela Delles, Indian River girls lacrosse. Delles had two early goals as Indian River beat Jamesville-DeWitt 9-8 for its first-ever Section III Class C championship on May 30.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Nate Benjamin, Liverpool baseball. With four hits and three runs scored, Benjamin sparked the Warriors’ comeback to beat Christian Brothers Academy 11-5 and win the Section III Class AA championship on May 28.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Gabe Malcolm, General Brown boys lacrosse. Malcolm’s three goals and two assists helped the Lions knock off top seed Skaneateles 10-9 in the May 26 Section III Class D semifinal.

Revitalize! CNY Rewarding Performance: Jeana Geertgens, Cooperstown softball. The Hawkeyes defeated Port Byron 4-2 for the Section III Class C championship with Geertgens driving in two of her team’s runs.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Jack Tamburino, Oriskany baseball. It was Tamubrino driving in the game’s only run that helped Oriskany edge Belleville-Henderson 1-0 for the Section III Class D championship on May 29.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Caraline Major, West Genesee girls lacrosse, scoring in the last second of overtime to help the Wildcats edge Auburn 13-12 in the Section III Class B championship game on May 30.

Upstate Urology Upstart: Darien Williams, Christian Brothers Academy boys track and field. Williams was first in both the 100 and 200-meter dash in Division II during the June 1 Section III state qualifying meet.

U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Imani Pugh, Rome Free Academy girls track and field. With a total of 3,269 points, Pugh was victorious in the pentathlon during the June 1 Section III state qualifying meet.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Shelbi Hagues, Poland softball. Hagues had four hits and drove in all six of her team’s runs as the Tornadoes beat West Canada Valley 6-1 to earn the Section III Class D championship on May 30.

Zero Draft Defensive Standout: Brendan Patrick, West Genesee boys lacrosse. Patrick held top Fayetteville-Manlius scorer Rob Madden without a goal in the Wildcats’ 9-7 win over Fayetteville-Manlius in the May 31 Section III Class B championship game.
