Attilios Ace Award: Gary McLane, West Genesee boys basketball. In the Wildcats’ 68-58 win over Syracuse Academy of Science in the March 2 Section III Class AA final, McLane earned 13 points, adding nine rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Jack Torrey, Skaneateles boys ice hockey. Torrey’s three assists proved a foundation for the Lakers as it defeated Webster Thomas 5-1 in the March 2 Division II regional final at Allyn Arena.
CNY Sealing and Paving Defensive Standout: As a whole, LaFargeville girls basketball stood out, limiting Copenhagen to 29 points in the course of winning its first-ever Section III Class D championship on March 2 at Onondaga Community College’s Allyn Hall.
Ethan Allen Award of Excellence: Marcus Castine, Sackets Harbor boys basketball. When the Patriots defeated Faith Heritage 64-49 for the Section III Class D championship March 2 at SRC Arena, Castine had a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, adding three assists and two steals.
Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: Colin Stafford, South Lewis boys indoor track and field. Stafford tore to third place in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:16.76 during the March 2 NYSPHSAA championships on Staten Island.
The Image Press Icon: Carmen Youngs, West Canada Valley girls bowling. Youngs’ 1,260 series in the NYSPHSAA Division II tournament March 8 at Strike-N-Spare Land was the best six-game score for any Division II team bowler.J M.
Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Jackson Blaszkow, Chittenango boys volleyball. The Bears edged Ichabod Crane in five sets March 2 to complete a perfect 21-0 season as Blaszkow had a team-best 14 kills and tacked on 21 assists.
Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Charlie DeMore, Westhill boys basketball. With Demore’s 12 points, five rebounds and four assists, the Warriors routed Massena 80-47 in the March 6 opening round of the state Class A tournament.
North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort: Ravan Marsell, Indian River girls basketball. Marsell did all she could, from 10 points to eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in her team’s 50-45 defeat to Catholic Central in the Class A regional playoffs.
Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Zach Latino, Sauquoit Valley boys volleyball. Sauquoit dropped a tense five-set battle to Catskill in the Class C regional playoffs March 2 despite Patino stepping up and putting away a team-best 14 kills.
Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Nolan Carner, Weedsport boys swimming. Carner recorded top-20 finishes in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle during the March 1-2 NYSPHSAA championships at Ithaca College.
Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Eric Barski, Auburn boys bowling. With a 1,265 series averaging better than 210 per game, Barski led the Section III All-Stars during the March 3 NYSPHSAA individual championships at Strike-N-Spare Lanes.
University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Maggie Trinkaus, Utica Notre Dame girls basketball, scoring three points in the final minute to help the Jugglers edge Marcellus 63-59 and win the Section III Class B championship on March 2.
Upstate Urology Upstart: Lindsey Speer, Hamilton girls basketball. When the Emerald Knights topped unbeaten West Canada 55-50 in the Section III Class C championship game March 1, Speer earned 11 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and six blocks.
Wilkins RV Winning Player: Jeff Manuel, Liverpool boys basketball. Earning 15 points and 14 rebounds, Manuel pushed the Warriors past Cicero-North Syracuse 55-52 in the March 2 Section III Class AAA final, Liverpool’s third consecutive sectional title.
