Awards for 5/20/2023

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Abby Reed, Stockbridge Valley softball. Reed hit for the cycle, earned five RBIs and struck out 13 in a no-hit pitching effort as part of Stockbridge’s 15-0 victory over Clinton on May 17.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Traian Cherciu, Cazenovia boys tennis. Cherciu’s run to the first singles title was part of a singles sweep for the Lakers as it won the Section III Class C-1 championship May 17 at Utica Parkway.

Empower Federal Credit Union Rewarding Effort: Trevor Doty, Fulton boys lacrosse. Fulton pushed its way to an 18-7 victory over Holland Patent on May 18 as Doty amassed six goals and three assists.

Ethan Allen Award of Excellence: Kallie Congden, Cicero-North Syracuse girls track and field. Congden led the Northstars to the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division title May 18 by taking the high jump, long jump and 100-meter hurdles.

Fitness Forum/Ultimate Goal/Sports 481 Fabulous Effort: Gianna Parise, Whitesboro girls lacrosse. Parise’s four goals and four assists carried Whitesboro past archrival New Hartford 10-9 on May 16.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: Sam Gonzalez, Solvay baseball. The Bearcats beat Jordan-Elbridge 14-3 on May 17 as Gonzalez put together a single, triple, home run and four RBIs at the plate.

JKS Roofing Super Standout: Caroline Porter, Chittenango softball. When the Bears shut out Marcellus 8-0 on May 18 and claimed the OHSL Liberty division regular-season title, Porter pitched a complete game with 13 strikeouts and just two hits allowed.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Luke Tighe, Pulaski boys track and field. The Blue Devils won the OHSL Patriot division championship May 17 as Tighe swept to victories in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Trinity Stowell, General Brown girls lacrosse. The Lions defeated Cazenovia 15-11 on May 19 in large part due to Stowell pouring in five goals and adding two assists.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Brady Garcia, Baldwinsville boys lacrosse. A steady performer all season, Garcia’s three goals keyed the Bees’ 12-8 victory over Fayetteville-Manlius in its May 16 regular-season finale.

Revitalize! CNY Rewarding Performance: Matt Krul, Oswego baseball. Krul’s complete-game shutout involved 14 strikeouts and just one hit allowed as the Buccaneers defeated Marcellus 4-0 on May 13.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Samantha Ferguson, Westmoreland softball. Going four-for-four with a triple and two RBIs, Ferguson led the Bulldogs to a 9-1 win over Herkimer on May 19.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Evanni McDuffie, East Syracuse Minoa girls track and field, breaking the school record in the 200-meter dash and helping the Spartans take the SCAC Empire division championship May 18 at Central Square.

Upstate Urology Upstart: Sarah Burgess, Jamesville-DeWitt girls golf. Burgess shot a 91 at the Pompey Club and led the Red Rams to a first-place finish in the Salt City Athletic Conference Empire Invitational on May 18.

U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Camiren Collins, Watertown boys track and field. Collins swept the 100 and 200-meter sprints that helped the Cyclones beat the field and win the Frontier League championship on May 15.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Ben Ryan, LaFayette baseball. Ryan pitched a no-hitter amassing 18 strikeouts and not allowing a walk as part of the Lancers’ 6-0 shutout of Onondaga on May 15.

Zero Draft Defensive Standout: Matt Craybas, Christian Brothers Academy boys lacrosse. The Brothers got a tough 8-5 victory over Haldane on May 13, launching a late-season surge as Craybas stopped 11 of the 16 shots he faced.
