APEX Ace Award: Emelia Szymanski, Rome Free Academy softball. Pitching six strong innings with five strikeouts, Szymanski led the Black Knights past Baldwinsville 7-1 to win the Section III Class AAA championship June 1, the program’s first sectional title since 1987.
Atlas Fence All-Star: Natalie Wilson, Cicero-North Syracuse girls lacrosse. The Northstars held off West Genesee 18-17 for the Section III Class A championship on June 2 as Wilson led her side scoring a career-high six goals.
Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Lilian Cota, South Jefferson girls track and field. Cota was victorious in the 100-meter dash (12.29 seconds) and 400-meter dash (57.78 seconds) during the Section III Class B state qualifying meet on June 5.
CNY Softwash & Pressure Washing Winning Achievement: Vince Lazzaro, Christian Brothers Academy boys lacrosse. With his five goals and one assist Lazzaro carried the Brothers past Watertown 9-7 to earn the Section III Class B championship on June 4.
The Image Press Icon: Dylan Buckingham, Beaver River boys track and field. During the Section III Class C state qualifying meet on June 3 Buckingham was able to clear 14 feet in the pole vault, best in any of the three sectional classes.
Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Katelyn Simpson, Hamilton softball, singling and then scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Emerald Knights past McGraw 2-1 and win the Section III Class D championship on June 1.
Mabey’s Moving and Storage Major Mover: Justin Barrett, Liverpool boys tennis. It was Barrett advancing all the way to the quarterfinals during the June 6-7 New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship singles tournament in New York City.
M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Eddie Wright, Oriskany baseball. Wright had a triple, two singles and scored twice to help Oriskany push past McGraw 6-3 and repeat as Section III Class D champions on June 3.
Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Andrew Laubenstein, Jamesville-DeWitt boys lacrosse. The Red Rams rolled past Homer 20-5 in the Section III Class C championship game June 4 as Laubenstein scored five goals, four of them in the first quarter.
North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort: Carli Norris, Sandy Creek softball. Norris got two hits off Port Byron ace Jenna Jump and earned an RBI as the Comets defeated the Panthers 4-1 on June 1 to win the Section III Class C championship.
Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Xavier Pawlowski, Whitesboro boys track and field. Pawlowski was victorious in the 100-meter dash (11.21 seconds) and 200-meter dash (22.57 seconds) during the Section III Class B qualifying meet on June 3.
O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Jed Lloyd, Bishop Grimes baseball, singling in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning and then pitching a scoreless seventh inning to help the Cobras past Utica Notre Dame 7-6 and win the Section III Class C championship on June 3.
110 Grill Award of Excellence: Jake McMahon, West Genesee boys lacrosse. McMahon put up four goals to lead a well-balanced Wildcats attack as it defeated Niskayuna 16-8 in the Class A regional final June 7 at Amsterdam.
Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Emma Szarek, Westmoreland girls track and field. With a total of 3,104 points Szarek beat all other competitors in the pentathlon during the June 5 Section III Class C state qualifying meet.
Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Sawyer Stewart, Solvay baseball. When the Bearcats defeated Holland Patent 12-3 to win the Section III Class B championship on June 2 Stewart pitched a complete game and also got two hits and an RBI at the plate.
Senke CNY Garage Door Sensational Star: Amalia Netto, South Jefferson girls lacrosse. Netto picked up three goals and two assists which helped the Spartans get past Westhill 13-7 and win the Section III Class D championship on June 2.
Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Ryan Maher, Auburn boys track and field. During the June 3 Section III Class B state qualifying meet Maher won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and ran the anchor leg on the Maroons’ victorious 4×800 relay team.
University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Jimmy Cox, Marcellus girls lacrosse, scoring seven seconds into double overtime to help the Mustangs defeat Skaneateles 11-10 and win its third consecutive Section III Class D championship on June 4.
Wilkins RV Winning Player: Alena Clough, Watertown girls lacrosse. Helped by Clough’s four goals and one assist, the Cyclones won the Section III Class B championship on June 2 defeating Auburn 13-7.
