Awards for 2/25/2023

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Danielle Seamon, Cooperstown girls basketball. With 32 points, Seamon helped the Hawkeyes beat Sherburne-Earlville 57-47 in overtime in the February 18 second round of the Section III Class C playoffs.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Thylia Keoviengsamay, Rome Free Academy girls volleyball. The Black Knights beat New Hartford for the Section III Class A winter championship February 18 as Keoviengsamay amassed 41 assists and 25 digs.

Empower Federal Credit Union Rewarding Effort: Will Lunny, Mount Markham boys basketball. With 33 points, eight rebounds and seven steals, Lunny led the Mustangs past Little Falls 88-71 in the February 22 Section III Class AA quarterfinals.

Ethan Allen Award of Excellence: Andrew Haddad, Canastota boys volleyball. The Raiders beat Vernon-Verona-Sherrill in four sets on February 16 as Haddad picked up nine kills, six digs and two blocks.

Fitness Forum/Ultimate Goal/Sports 481 Fabulous Effort: Ben Bristol-Murray, CBA/Jamesville-DeWitt ice hockey. With two goals including a tying goal at the end of regulation plus an assist, Bristol-Murray helped the Brothers beat Cortland-Homer 4-3 in the February 21 Section III Division II semifinals.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: Natalie Bush, Central Square girls basketball. The Redhawks beat Oswego 46-29 in the Section III Class A quarterfinals February 23 as Bush had 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Maiya Hathaway, Sandy Creek girls volleyball. Hathaway’s 20 assists, 10 kills and 13 digs helped the Comets beat Fabius-Pompey in four sets February 18 for the Section III Class D winter championship.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Ryan Moesch, Chittenango boys basketball. Moesch picked up 30 points, four steals and three assists in the Bears’ 71-47 win over Camden in the February 23 Section III Class B quarterfinals.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Denarius McCurty, Nottingham boys basketball. The Bulldogs defeated Corcoran 74-56 in the Section III Class AA quarterfinal February 21 as McCurty led the way with 29 points.

Revitalize! CNY Rewarding Performance: Liam Burns, West Genesee ice hockey. Burns got a three-goal hat trick in the first two periods of the Wildcats’ 4-0 win over Syracuse in the February 22 Section III Division I semifinals.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Kayla Flask, Weedsport girls basketball. Picking up 19 points, Flask led the Warriors past Port Byron 48-33 in the February 23 Section III Class C quarterfinals.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Drew Kopek, Clinton girls ice hockey, scoring with 1:23 left in regulation to give the Warriors a 2-1 victory over Adirondack United February 18 and the NYSPHSAA regional championship.

Upstate Urology Upstart: Ethan Rivers, Madison boys basketball. The Blue Devils handled Morrisville-Eaton 71-45 in the second round of the Section III Class D playoffs on February 18, Rivers finishing with 27 points.

U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Cece Powell, Marcellus girls basketball, Putting up 26 points, Powell helped the Mustangs knock off no. 2 seed Mexico 48-39 in the Section III Class B quarterfinals on February 23.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Keegan Lynch, Baldwinsville ice hockey. With a goal and two assists, Lynch led the Bees past Cicero-North Syracuse 4-0 in the Section III Division I semifinals on February 23.

Zero Draft Defensive Standout: Marcus Castine, Sackets Harbor boys basketball. Castine’s nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks keyed the Patriots’ 53-50 win over Oriskany in the February 22 Section III Class D quarterfinals.
