Awards for 11/2/2024

APEX Ace Award: Tyler Quarry, East Syracuse Minoa boys volleyball. When the Spartans battled to a four-set victory over Baldwinsville in the November 1 regular-season finale Quarry set a new career mark by putting away 26 kills to go with two aces, two blocks and four digs.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Hugh Carroll, Skaneateles football. The Lakers needed every bit of Carroll’s 198 passing yards and 127 rushing yards and two touchdowns to push past Canastota 35-32 in the November 1 opening round of the Section III Class C playoffs.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Makaylaa Mowers, Little Falls field hockey. Putting up the game’s only goal in the third quarter, Mowers helped the Mounties edge Canastota 1-0 and secure the Section III Class C championship October 30 at Camden High School.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: McKenna Johnson, Fabius-Pompey girls cross country. With her second-place individual finish, Johnson ultimately led the Falcons to the team title in the October 30 OHSL Patriot division championship race at Tully High School.

The Image Press Icon: Izzy Tutino, Homer girls volleyball. Between her 14 kills and 22 digs, Tutino led on the offensive and defensive sides for the Trojans as it put away Skaneateles in four sets in the October 30 Section III Class B quarterfinal.

JKS Roofing High Achiever: Camren Hoag, Cato-Meridian football. With his 13 carries for 213 yards and three touchdowns Hoag drove the Blue Devils past Westmoreland/Orisakny 54-21 in the November 1 opening round of the Section III Class C playoffs.

Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Lexie Fragnito, Marcellus girls soccer, netting the game-winning goal in overtime to help the Mustangs defeat Christian Brothers Academy 1-0 on November 1 and repeat as Section III Class B champions.

M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Tyler Dibble, West Canada Valley football. In the eight-man opening-round game November 1 between West Canada and Weedsport Dibble ran wild with 19 carries for 178 yards and two touchdowns, helping his team prevail 48-8.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Collin Fitzgerald, Mexico boys cross country. Fitzgerald’s time of 15:30.9 put him fourth overall but first in the OHSL Liberty American division and helped the Tigers to the overall title in the October 30 league championships at Marcellus Park.

North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort: Tristan Jarvie, General Brown football. The Lions pulled away late from Marcellus 59-29 in the opening round of the Section III Class C playoffs carried by Jarvie, who scored five touchdowns while gaining 234 yards on 13 carries.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Ava Larrabee, Cincinnatus girls soccer. The Lions won 4-1 over Bishop Ludden November 2 at SUNY-Cortland for the Section III Class C championship as Larrabee had a part in all but one scoring play thanks to her to goal and two assists.

O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Julian Shay, Tully boys soccer, netting his second goal of the game in overtime that helped the Black Knights push past Manlius Pebble Hill 3-2 in the October 30 Section III Class C semifinal at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill.

110 Grill Award of Excellence: Jack Dutter, Baldwinsville boys soccer. Dutter assisted on one goal and scored on a penalty kick in a three-minute span of the second half which helped the Bees put away Fayetteville-Manlius 3-0 in the October 30 Section III Class AAA semifinal at Fulton.

Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Sheridan Pouliot, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill field hockey. The Red Devils broke a long title drought beating Whitesboro 2-1 in the November 1 Section III Class B final at Camden as Pouliot scored both goals in the opening two periods.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Darby Fitzpatrick, Copenhagen girls soccer. Fitzpatrick scored both the tying goal late in regulation and the winning goal in penalty kicks as the Gold Knights fought past Hamilton in the November 1 Section III Class D championship game at SUNY-Cortland.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Baltzar Vale de Gato, New Hartford boys soccer. Fueled by Vale de Gato’s pair of goals, the Spartans handled South Jefferson 4-0 November 2 at East Syracuse Minoa to claim the Section III Class A championship.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Owen Brown, Liverpool football, returning the kickoff for a touchdown with 1:10 to play, leading to a go-ahead two-point conversion and the Warriors’ ultimate 27-26 victory over Baldwinsville in the November 1 opening round of the Section III Class AA playoffs.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Leah Rehm, Katalina Lawrence, Cicero-North Syracuse girls soccer. One of just two seniors on the team, Lawrence’s goal in the opening minutes held up for the Northstars as it edged Baldwinsville 1-0 November 2 at SUNY-Cortland and repeated as Section III Class AAA champions.
