Awards for 11/5/2023

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Camryn Shenk, Camden field hockey. The Blue Devils dethroned Holland Patent 2-1 to win the Section III Class B championship October 29 as Shenk scored both of her team’s goals.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Ryan Maher, Auburn boys cross country. Maher led the Maroons to the Section III Class A championship November 4 at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, finishing second among individuals in 16 minutes, 21.2 seconds.

Attilios Ace Award: Eva Tarolli, Westhill girls volleyball. The Warriors swept Skaneateles for the Section III Class B championship on November 4 as Tarolli paced her team’s front line, picking up 12 kills.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Dom Jones, Mount Markham football. WIth 14 carries for 143 yards and a touchdown, Jones helped the Mustangs upend unbeaten Sandy Creek 21-13 in the Section III Class D semifinals on November 13.

CNY Sealing and Paving Defensive Standout:  Jaylene Decker, Rome Free Academy field hockey. Decker made seven saves and helped the Black Knights turn back 13 penalty corners on the way to defeating Cicero-North Syracuse 1-0 October 29 for the Section III Class A championship.

Ethan Allen Award of Excellence: Jack Waite, Cicero-North Syracuse boys volleyball. Avenging two regular-season losses and the 2022 final, the Northstars beat Fayetteville-Manlius November 4 for the Section III Division I championship as Waite got 35 assists, four blocks and eight digs.

Fitness Forum/Ultimate Goal/Sports 481 Fabulous Effort: Landon LaDuke, South Jefferson football. Completing nine of 12 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns, LaDuke led the Spartans past Mexico 48-21 for the Section III Class B-2 division championship on November 4.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: Carter Cookinham, Poland boys soccer. WIth a three-goal hat trick, Cookinham carried the Tornadoes past South Kortright 3-1 on November 4 to win the Class D regional championship.

The Image Press Icon: Lauren Rey, Clinton field hockey. Rey’s goal in overtime helped the Comets defeat Mount Markham 1-0 on October 29 and earn the Section III Class C championship.

M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Sienna Martin, Whitesboro girls swimming. Martin won the 500-yard freestyle and was third in the 50-yard freestyle during the Section III state qualifying meet November 3 at Nottingham High School.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Alexandria French, New Hartford girls cross country. In a time of 20 minutes, 59.6 seconds, French beat the field and was the Section III Class B individual champion November 4 at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Mandi Waltz, Cincinnatus girls soccer. The Lions beat Edmeston 2-0 in the Class D regional final as Waltz’s goal early in the second half provided some much-needed insurance.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Hailee Howe, Hamilton girls volleyball. The Emerald Knights edged Living Word Academy for the Section III Class D championship on November 4 as Howe dished out a total of 33 assists on the back line.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Collin Stafford, South Lewis boys country. Lewis’ second-place individual effort helped lead the Falcons to the team title in the November 4 Section III Class D championships at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Andrew Jung, Baldwinsville boys soccer, netting the goal in overtime that helped the Bees defeat Shaker 2-1 and win the Class AAA regional championship on November 4.

Upstate Urology Upstart: Arianna Matthews, Skaneateles girls swimming. Matthews won the 200 and 500-yard freestyle races as the Lakers breezed to the team title in the Section III Class C championships November 1 at Nottingham.

U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Jadyen Regan, Little Falls field hockey. Regan recorded a three-goal hat trick to help the Mounties defeat Morrisville-Eaton 5-2 on October 29 and win the Section III Class D championship.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Mikah Combs, East Syracuse Minoa football. Combs’ pair of touchdowns, including the game-winner, as the Spartans knocked off West Genesee 22-20 in the November 3 Section III Class A semifinal at Mike Messere Field.
