Awards for 1/10/2026

APEX Amazing Athlete: Katie Pledger, Christian Brothers Academy girls volleyball. The Brothers outlasted Pulaski in five sets on January 9 led by Pledger putting up 15 kills on the front line and also contributing 11 digs and two aces.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Mykey Hatherill, Liverpool boys bowling. Hatherill bowled a season-best 776 series with games of 253, 244 and 279 helping the Legends hand Baldwinsville its first defeat of the season by a 5-2  margin on January 9.

B&B Lumber Big Mover: Emma Johnson, Cooperstown girls basketball. The Hawkeyes surprised Sauquoit Valley 66-47 on January 9 with Johnson a big part of it thanks to her 24 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Luke Langel, Hamilton boys basketball. Langel finished with 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists as the Emerald Knights held off Waterville 56-52 on January 8.

Clifton Recycling Rewarding Effort: Gabriella Gonzales, Phoenix girls wrestling. Gonzales moved to 22-2 on the season and won the 152-pound championship against a large field in the January 9 Southern Tier Memorial Tournament in Elmira.

CNY Softwash & Pressure Washing Superstar: Logan Willis, West Genesee boys wrestling. Willis was victorious at 150 pounds in the January 8 Southern Tier Memorial Tournament in Elmira improving to 26-1 on the season.

Fire Brothers Red-Hot Performance: Cole Meeker, Cortland boys basketball. Piling up 15 rebounds to go with 10 points, Meeker anchored the Purple Tigers’ defensive effort as it defeated Syracuse Academy of Science 55-41 on January 7.

F.W. Webb Winning Effort: Jake Latino, Sauquoit Valley boys volleyball. The Hawks handed Chittenango its first defeat of the season in a three-set sweep on January 10 with Latino dishing out plenty of passes on his way to 18 assists.

The Image Press Icon: Nolan O’Brien, Clinton boys ice hockey. O’Brien netted two of his team’s three goals which helped the Comets record an impressive 3-0 shutout over Auburn on January 8 at Casey Park.

Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Cole Venditti, East Syracuse Minoa boys basketball, hitting the go-ahead basket in overtime as the Spartans went on to knock off unbeaten, state Class AA no. 2-ranked Nottingham 52-48 on January 10.

Mabey’s Moving and Storage Major Mover: Brandon Keil, Cicero-North Syracuse boys swimming. Keil’s time of 52.36 seconds in the 100 butterfly in the January 9 Salt City Invitational qualified him for March’s NYSPHSAA championships in that event.

Mirbeau Inn and Spa Megastar:  Lillian Cota, South Jefferson girls indoor track and field. Cota claimed first place in both the 300 and 600-meter runs during the first session of the January 10 John Arcaro Memorial at SRC Arena.

M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Amadi Oneyani, Auburn boys indoor track and field. Oneyani cleared 6 feet 3 inches in the high jump to win that event and helped the Maroons take the team title in the January 10 John Arcaro Memorial at SRC Arena.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Regan Healy, Oswego girls ice hockey. Stopping 31 of the 33 shots she faced, Healy helped the Buccaneers pull out a 2-2 tie with Ithaca on January 8.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Phoenecia Hathaway, Sandy Creek girls volleyball. Though the Comets fell in five sets to South Lewis on January 7 Hathaway had a superb performance picking up 21 kills, 23 digs and six aces.

O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Jordyn Shapiro, Fayetteville-Manlius girls basketball, putting in a rebound basket in the final seconds to lift the Hornets past Cicero-North Syracuse 47-46 on January 8 and beat the Northstars for the first time since 2017.

Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Zach Hammond, Fulton boys wrestling. Improving to 22-2 on the season Hammond won the 126-pound title and led the Red Dragons to the team championship in the January 10 Phoenix Mid-Winter Classic.

Potter and Perone Special Performance: Catlyn Kalunda, Indian River girls wrestling. When the Hawks won its own January 10 Lunar Lockdown Tournament Kalunda prevailed at 132 pounds beating General Brown’s Cori Martin in the finals.

Premier Hardwood Premier Player: Milen Williams, Henninger boys basketball. Earning 23 points and adding six rebounds, Williams helped push the Black Knights to a 74-70 overtime victory over Baldwinsville on January 6.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Luke Balfe, Whitesboro ice hockey. Stopping 28 of the 29 shots he aced, Balfe helped Whitesboro knock off reigning three-time state Division II champion Skaneateles 4-1 on January 6.

Rockbridge Investment Management Risk Taker: Nick Canale, Oswego boys swimming. Canale piled up 524.15 points to defeat an elite field and win the diving competition in the January 10 Yeti Classic at Webster Aquatic Center.

Senke CNY Garage Door Sensational Star: Mylie Weyant, Rome Free Academy girls bowling. The Black Knights stayed undefeated handling New Hartford 7-0 on January 9 as Weyant shot a 617 series with a high game of 222.

Sierson Crane and Welding Superstar: Phillip Norgaisse, Carthage boys basketball. Norgaisse was unstoppable in the Comets’ 73-65 double-overtime victory over Indian River on January 8 finishing with 41 points and 15 rebounds.

Top Notch Roofing Top Star: Nicolas Lavesa-Cesana, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill boys volleyball. Putting away 16 kills, Cesant helped the Red Devils defeat Rome Free Academy in three sets on January 8.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Cece Powell, Marcellus girls basketball, scoring her 2,000th career point in the third quarter of the undefeated, state Class B no. 2-ranked Mustangs’ 73-38 victory over Homer on January 10.

U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Olivia Vitale, Faith Heritage girls volleyball. Vitale picked up 13 kills, nine digs and four aces which helped the Saints defeat Fabius-Pompey in straight sets on January 5.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Jerod Olrich, Southeron Hills boys wrestling. With his 285-pound title earned in the January 10 Dan Wickham Classic in Untaego, Olrich improved to 22-1 on the season.

Wonder Windows Winning Performance: Finn Hagan, Cazenovia ice hockey. Piling up four assists to go with his lone goal, Hagan helped carry the Lakers to a 5-3 victory over Williamsville South on January 10.
