APEX Amazing Athlete: Paul Ortega, Watertown boys wrestling. Ortega beat Carthage’s Conor Hickey 8-0 to win the 165-pound title in the February 14 Section III Division I championships at SRC Arena and moved his season record to 36-1.
Atlas Fence All-Star: Layla Rice, Mount Markham girls volleyball. The Mustangs topped Beaver River in four sets on February 14 to win the Section III Class C championship and complete a perfect 22-0 season as Rice amassed 13 kills and 22 digs.
B&B Lumber Big Mover: Grady Gaudet, Oneida boys swimming. Gaudet was victorious in both the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke during the February 10 Section III Class C championships at Nottingham High School.
Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Jameson Stepien, Oswego boys ice hockey. The Buccaneers upset regular-season Division II champion Whitesboro 4-3 on February 10 helped by Stepien stopping 38 of the 41 shots he faced in goal.
Clifton Recycling Rewarding Effort: Marquis Grimes, Frankfort-Schuyler boys basketball. Grimes gained 16 points, 15 rebounds and six assists leading the Maroon Knights past Adirondack 79-58 on February 10.
CNY Softwash & Pressure Washing Superstar: Natalie Hollingshead, Baldwinsville girls basketball. Hollingshead scored 12 of her 25 points in the fourth quarter as part of a closing 30-9 surge to help the Bees rally past Liverpoool 68-63 on February 13.
Fire Brothers Red-Hot Performance: Nick Lavesa-Cesana, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill boys volleyball. Lavesa-Cesana produced 11 kills and four aces keeping the Red Devils undefeaetd as it swept Central Valley Academy in three sets on February 11.
F.W. Webb Winning Effort: Lyla Duskee, Phoenix girls basketball. When the Firebirds used a late-game comeback to defeat Chittenango 43-40 on February 10 Duskee carried her team’s attack and finished the night with 25 points.
The Image Press Icon: Christian Lawson, Cooperstown boys basketball. Lawson gained 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals when the Hawkeyes topped Utica Proctor 75-68 on February 12 to complete a 20-0 regular season.
Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Trent True, Holland Patent boys wrestling, pinning Homer’s Owen Burhans to win the 190-pound title in the Section III Division II championships at SRC Arena to move to 47-1 on the season.
Mabey’s Moving and Storage Major Mover: Madelyn Lund, Tully girls volleyball. Tying her career mark with 43 digs, Lund helped the Black Knights defeat Owen D. Young in four sets on February 14 to win the Section III Class D winter championship.
Mirbeau Inn and Spa Megastar: Lesha Kabunov, Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA boys swimming. During the February 12 Section III state qualifier at Nottingham High School Kabunov was victorious in both the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Morgan Sheldon, Fulton girls bowling. Shooting a four-game total of 776, Sheldon helped the Red Dragons to repeat as Section III Division I champions on February 1 at Flamingo Bowl.
Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: A.J. Wade, Bishop Ludden-Grimes boys basketball. When the Gaelic Knights outscored Christian Brothers Academy 86-67 on February 13 Wade accumulated a career-best 25 points plus eight rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Elek Nyitray, Watertown IHC ice hockey. Nyiatray erupted for a career-best five goals as the Cavaliers routed CNY Fusion 10-3 on February 12 in the opening round of the Section III Division I playoffs.
O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Macon Kingsley, South Jefferson boys indoor track and field, throwing the shot put 56 feet 3 1/2 inches to claim victory in the February 11 Section III state qualifying meet at SRC Arena.
Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Mikayla Jaros, New Hartford girls basketball. The Spartans rolled past Fayetteville-Manlius 61-49 on February 9 with Jaros piling up 23 points and 15 rebounds plus five steals.
Potter and Perone Special Performance: Colin Logalbo, Little Falls boys wrestling. Logalbo’s pin of Marcellus’ Jake Burton secured the 126-pound title at the February 14 Section III Division II championships at SRC Arena.
Premier Hardwood Premier Player: Leah Ferris, General Brown girls basketball. Again Ferris carried a great deal of the weight for the Lions with 25 points and 18 rebounds to push her team past Lowville 50-42 on February 11.
Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Evelyn McNally, Skaneateles girls ice hockey. McNally’s pair of goals helped the Lakers pull away late and defeat Ithaca 4-0 in the February 12 Section III semifinal at Allyn Arena.
Rockbridge Investment Management Risk Taker: Landon Bregou, Faith Heritage boys basketball. Bregou pulled off the rare 20-20 feat of 21 points and 20 rebounds helping the Saints knock off Weedsport 80-76 on February 11.
Senke CNY Garage Door Sensational Star: Sophia Otokiti, Oswego girls indoor track and field. Otokiti, a sophomore, won the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.17 seconds and was second in the triple jump during the February 11 Section III state qualifying meet at SRC Arena.
Sierson Crane and Welding Superstar: Amber Connolly, Owen D. Young girls volleyball. The Wildcats reached the program’s first-ever Section III final defeating Town of Webb in four sets in the February 12 semifinal led by Connolly with her 12 kills and 14 digs.
Top Notch Roofing Top Star: Carmen Youngs, West Canada Valley girls bowling. Youngs shot the top four-game series of 889 in the Section III team tournament February 1 and also led the Nighthawks to the sectional Division II championship.
University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Fayetteville-Manlius boys swimming winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in the February 12 Section III state qualifier at Nottingham High School to clinch the George Falwell Cup for the first time in program history.
U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Grace Stroman, Westhill girls basketball. Led by Stroman getting 18 points and six rebounds, the Wolf Pack was able to defeat Skaneateles 45-36 on February 12.
Wilkins RV Winning Player: Yoe Suu, Utica Proctor boys volleyball. With his 34 assists, Suu was the catalyst for the Raiders when it defeated archrival Rome Free Academy in four sets on February 13.
Wonder Windows Winning Performance: Cayden Summerville, LaFayette boys basketball. With Summerville earning 20 points and 11 rebounds, the Lancers picked up a 45-36 victory over Hannibal on February 12.
