Awards for 5/13/2023

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Jack Buckingham, South Jefferson baseball. Buckingham pitched a complete game, earned three hits and drove in two runs as the unbeaten Spartans gave Beaver River its first defeat of the season 15-5 on May 9.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Katherine Kinney, Oneida softball. Oneida edged Central Valley Academy 13-12 on May 9 helped by Kinney hitting a home run, walking twice and finishing with three RBIs.

Empower Federal Credit Union Rewarding Effort: Alayna Wood, Syracuse girls lacrosse. Picking up four goals, Wood helped push Syracuse City to an 8-6 victory over Cortland on May 11.

Ethan Allen Award of Excellence: Carson Dyl, Baldwinsville boys lacrosse. Dyl’s three goals, including the game-winner with 1.9 seconds left, helped the Bees defeat Section V powerhouse Victor 7-6 on May 6.

Fitness Forum/Ultimate Goal/Sports 481 Fabulous Effort: Lydia DeTraglia, Clinton girls track and field. Clinton defeated Adirondack 89-47 on May 10 as DeTraglia was victorious in the 100, 200 and 400-meter sprints along with the 110 high hurdles.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: Evie Denton, Rome Free Academy girls golf. Shooting a nine-hole 41, Denton kept the Black Knights undefeated on May 11 as it defeated Utica Proctor 191-326.

JKS Roofing Super Standout: Riley Storrs, Fulton softball. Hitting a third-inning grand slam, Storrs helped Fulton knock off Jamesville-DeWitt 5-2 on May 11 to halt the Red Rams’ eight-game win streak.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Maeve Mackenzie, Christian Brothers Academy girls lacrosse. The Brothers defeated Cazenovia 18-12 on May 6, led again by Mackenzie, who poured in six goals.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Gavin Poyer, Waterville boys golf. Shooting a 37 for nine holes, Poyer kept Waterville undefeated as it rolled past New York Mills 171-245 on May 11.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Talon Elkins, West Genesee baseball. Pitching six innings and getting an inside-the-park home run, Elkins helped the Wildcats push past Baldwinsville 3-1 on May 10, the third win over the Bees in eight days.

Revitalize! CNY Rewarding Performance: Dan Friedel, New Hartford boys lacrosse. With his five goals, Freidel delivered for the Spartans an 11-10 victory over Westhill on May 6.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Kaidence Cronin, Onondaga softball. When the Tigers routed Bishop Grimes 25-4 on May 9, Cronin twice went deep for home runs and finished with six RBIs.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Mackenzie Prentice, Cicero-North Syracuse girls lacrosse, converting a goal in overtime to help the Northstars defeat Baldwinsville 11-10 on May 9.

Upstate Urology Upstart: Charles Tracy, Auburn boys tennis. With his straight-set singles win over Josh Spilka, Tracy got the crucial point for the Maroons as it topped East Syracuse Minoa 4-3 on May 8.

U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Andrew McCaffrey, Marcellus boys track and field. Wins in the 100 and 200-meter sprints, plus the pole vault and long jump, by McCaffrey helped the Mustangs rout Solvay 108-32 on May 10.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Luke Secreti, General Brown boys lacrosse. When the Lions defeated Carthage 7-2 on May 9, Secreti nearly stopped everything in goal and finished with 11 saves.

Zero Draft Defensive Standout: Sully Clarke, Cazenovia baseball. Clarke’s sliding catch in the second inning had a big part in preserving Jack Byrnes’ no-hitter on May 9 as the Lakers defeated Christian Brothers Academy 1-0.
