Awards for 4/1/2023

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Sawyer Kramer, New Hartford boys lacrosse. Putting together five goals and one assist, Kramer helped the Spartans pull away to beat Carthage 13-6 on March 28.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Ariana Proper. Cato-Meridian girls track and field. Proper swept the 100, 200 and 400-meter sprints during the Blue Devils’ sweep of Weedsport and Onondaga on March 29.

Empower Federal Credit Union Rewarding Effort: Layla Isaacs, Onondaga softball. Isaacs singled, doubled, tripled and drove in five runs in the Tigers’ 21-6 victory over Tully in the March 29 season opener.

Ethan Allen Award of Excellence: Nixon Karcz, Jordan-Elbridge boys lacrosse. The Eagles shut out Watkins Glen 25-0 in its March 25 season opener as Karcz picked up two goals and five assists.

Fitness Forum/Ultimate Goal/Sports 481 Fabulous Effort: Alex and Olivia Matucek, Watertown girls lacrosse. These sisters both had four goals and one assist when the Cyclones beat General Brown 18-4 on March 30.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: Ryan Carroll, Fulton boys lacrosse. Earning three goals and three assists, Carroll helped the Red Raiders romp past Utica Proctor 18-1 on March 30.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Paisley Cook, South Jefferson girls lacrosse. Cook controlled 16 draws and picked up four ground balls in the Spartans’ 11-7 win over Watertown on March 27.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Ava Baker, Canastota girls track and field. When the Raiders routed Sherburne-Earlville March 29, Baker won the 100, 400, 1,500 and 3,000-meter runs.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Luke Dupee, General Brown boys lacrosse, earning four goals and two assists in the Lions’ 10-9 overtime victory over South Jefferson on March 28.

Revitalize! CNY Rewarding Performance: Danielle D’Aiuto, Rome Free Academy girls lacrosse. When the Black Knights beat Avon 16-3 in the March 27 season opener, D’Aiuto managed five goals and one assist.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Tristan Korfonta, Christian Brothers Academy football, Korfonta won the Al Vedder Scholarship as the highest ranked scholar-athlete handed out March 26 at the NFF-CNY Chapter Scholar-Athlete Banquet.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Ava Spicer, Southern Hills girls lacrosse, scoring in double overtime to give the newly-formed Storm its first-ever win, 9-8, over New Hartford on March 29.

Upstate Urology Upstart: Katie Crippin, Cooperstown softball. With two hits and three runs scored, Crippin led the Hawkeyes to an 11-1 win over Sidney in the March 29 season opener.

U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Troy Brown, Weedsport boys track and field. Brown’s victories in the long jump and shot put helped the Warriors defeat Onondaga 71-42 on March 29.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Kelsey Brunelle, Jordan-Elbridge girls lacrosse. The Eagles won its opener 11-7 over Chittenango on March 30 largely due to Brunelle’s five goals.

Zero Draft Defensive Standout: Quenten Polkowski, Marcellus boys lacrosse. Polkowski stopped 10 of the 11 shots he faced in the Mustangs’ 12-1 victory over Auburn on March 30.
