APEX Amazing Athlete: Eli Prince, Westhill boys basketball. Carrying the Wolf Pack to an undefeated season and the state Class A championship, Prince capped it off with 31 points and 13 rebounds in the title game in Binghamton beating Hudson 54-42.
Atlas Fence All-Star: Hallie Miller, Copenhagen girls basketball. In the Gold Knights’56-46 defeat to Stamford in the Class D regional finals in Binghamton Miller led her team’s efforts picking up 16 points, 15 rebounds and five assists.
B&B Lumber Big Mover: Luke Baffe, Whitesboro ice hockey. Though Whitesboro lost the Division II regional final 2-1 to Clarence on March 7 Baffe had a sensational effort in the net stopping 29 of the 31 shots he faced.
Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Lucas Green, Marcellus boys basketball. When the Mustangs defeated Buffalo Olmstead 56-31 in the March 19 state Class B semifinal in Binghamton Green was a driving force picking up 11 points.
Clifton Recycling Rewarding Effort: Maria Sweet, Oswego girls basketball. Despite the Buccaneers’ 64-41 loss to Bethlehem in the March 6 Class AA regional final Sweet still stood out thanks to her 13 points and 12 rebounds.
CNY Softwash & Pressure Washing Superstar: Jahzar Greene, Bishop Ludden-Grimes boys basketball. In his final game with the Gaelic Knights Greene gained 27 points and six rebounds as the Gaelic Knights lost 80-51 to Albany CBA in the Class AAA regional final on March 14.
Fire Brothers Red-Hot Performance: Nate Ornoski, Cicero-North Syracuse boys swimming. Earning 448.95 points Ornoski was eighth overall for a podium finish in diving in the March 6 NYSPHSAA championships at Ithaca College.
F.W. Webb Winning Effort: Luke Peters, Sackets Harbor boys basketball. Notching eight rebounds and five assists, Peters sparked the Patriots to defeat Clymer 46-37 in the state Class D semifinal March 21 in Binghamton.
The Image Press Icon: Keegan Matthews, New Hartford girls volleyball. Earning a team-high 254 kills and 200 digs plus 35 aces and 35 blocks, Matthews led the undefeated Spartans to the Section III Class A winter championship.
Little York Plantation Play of the Week: Erin Trinkaus, Utica Notre Dame girls basketball scoring 15 of her team’s first 17 points on her way to 39 points overall in the Jugglers’ 62-44 win over Rochester Mercy in the March 21 state Class A semifinal in Troy.
Mabey’s Moving and Storage Major Mover: Broc Barker, Sauquoit Valley boys volleyball. Leading the Hawks to the Section III and regional Class C winter championships Barker picked up a team-best 66 digs.
Mirbeau Inn and Spa Megastar: Jacob Bruno, Rome Free Academy ice hockey. With his 21 goals and 44 assists this season, Bruno’s 65 points was by far the best of any individual player in the Section III Division I ranks.
M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Finn Criss, Marcellus boys basketball. Criss stepped up to score 20 points as he helped the Mustangs defeat Potsdam 65-53 in the Class B regional final on March 15 at SRC Arena.
Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Katy Michael, West Canada Valley girls basketball. Michael picked up 10 points and eight rebounds to keep the Nighthawks close in a 58-48 Class C regional final defeat to Delhi on March 14.
Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Anthony Bryant, East Syracuse Minoa boys basketball. Bryant’s 22 points helped the Spartans nearly rally for victory in the March 15 Class AA regional final even though it lost 65-60 to Binghamton Seton Catholic.
O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Jackson Crisman, Cooperstown boys basketball hitting a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Hawkeyes a 66-64 victory over Lyons in the March 21 state Class C semifinals in Binghamton.
Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Sicily Shaffer, Baldwinsville girls basketball. Finishing with 14 points, Shaffer led the Bees’ offense even though it lost to Shaker 61-35 in the March 13 Class AAA regional final in Troy.
Potter and Perone Special Performance: Jerod Olrich, Southern Hills wrestling. Olrich completed a 40-4 season with a second-place finish at 285 pounds at the February 27-28 NYSPHSAA Division II championships in Albany.
Premier Hardwood Premier Player: Tenly Baker, Marcellus girls basketball. Baker finished with 23 points to lead the Mustangs in its 69-58 defeat to Chenango Forks in the March 20 state Class B semifinals in Troy.
Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Sam Vormwald, West Genesee ice hockey. It was Vormwald’s goal in the second period which tied the Wildcats with Canton 3-2 in the March 14 state Division I semifinal in Buffalo though the Wildcats went on to a 3-2 overtime defeat.
Rockbridge Investment Management Risk Taker: Dei’Avion Camby, Nottingham boys basketball. Camby’s 15 points led a well-balanced Bulldogs attack in a valiant effort in the Class AA regional final even though it lost 61-55 to Amsterdam.
Senke CNY Garage Door Sensational Star: Brock Frederick, South Jefferson boys wrestling. In the February 27-28 NYSPHSAA Division II championships in Albany Frederick earned second place at 126 pounds to finish with a 40-5 record.
Sierson Crane and Welding Superstar: Gallagher Driscoll and Carm Petrera, Bishop Ludden-Grimes basketball. Both the boys and girls varsity coaches of the Gaelic Knights announced that they were stepping down after the season.
Top Notch Roofing Top Star: Savannah Wilcox, Mount Markham girls volleyball. Wilcox earned 668 assists in 22 matches, all victories, leading the Mustangs to the Section III Class C winter championship.
University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Westhill boys basketball completing a perfect 26-0 season with an all-senior starting five when it defeated Hudson 54-42 in the state Class A championship game in Binghamton.
U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Kymah Gummaw, Indian River boys wrestling. Perfect in the consolation bracket, Gummaw closed his 41-5 season with a third-place finish in the February 27-28 NYSPHSAA championships in Albany.
Wilkins RV Winning Player: Luke Bobbett, Skaneateles boys ice hockey. Bobbett’s total of 39 assists led all of Section III and his 52 points edged out teammate Braden Taggart by two points to be the top scorer in the Division II ranks.
Wonder Windows Winning Performance: Ava Roberts, Holland Patent girls volleyball. On the way to a Section III Class B winter championship Roberts led the Golden Knights with 100 kills while adding 114 digs and 40 aces.
