AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Sonya Dunham, West Genesee girls volleyball. The Wildcats rallied in five sets to defeat Cicero-North Syracuse on October 6 as Dunham excelled with both 20 assists and 16 digs. Atlas Fence All-Star: Kyle Werhlin, Chittenango football. Werhlin set career marks with 201 rushing yards on 28 carries and five touchdowns as the Bears pushed past Institute of Technology Central 43-22 on October 6. Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Mallory Peters, Watertown girls swimming. The Cyclones remained undefeated, beating Carthage 108-67 as Peters earned first-place finishes in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle and helped in the 200 medley relay. Empower Federal Credit Union Rewarding Effort: Alex Radley, Lyme boys soccer. Lyme continued to roll with an 8-1 victory over Sackets Harbor on October 5 as Radley added five more goals to run his season total to 28. Ethan Allen Award of Excellence: Madison Kelly, Frankfort-Schuyler girls soccer. With her four goals, Kelly ran her season total to 25 and led the Maroon Knights to a 7-0 shutout over Adirondack on October 3. Fitness Forum/Ultimate Goal/Sports 481 Fabulous Effort: Alexis McGregor, Liverpool field hockey. McGregor’s breakaway goal in the overtime period helped the Warriors pull off a 2-1 overtime victory over Cicero-North Syracuse on October 4. Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: Darren Miles, Sherburne-Earlville football. Miles threw for seven touchdowns on just 13 passes, gaining 270 yards in the Marauders’ 54-0 win over Utica-Notre Dame on October 5. Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Sam Yonkers, Central Square boys volleyball. The Redhawks won a five-set battle with Living Word Academy on October 3 as Yonkers had both 17 kills and eight digs. Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Madden Cobb, Cazenovia girls tennis. Cobb went a perfect 3-0 in singles in a 48-hour span as the Lakers beat Copenhagen, Manlius Pebble Hill and Marcellus to earn the Section III Class C team championship. Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Brock McManaman, General Brown football. The Lions knocked off unbeaten, state Class C no.3 -ranked Adirondack 12-6 on October 6 as McManaman was superb on defense, earning 14 tackles. Revitalize! CNY Rewarding Performance: Olivia Kalil, Sauquoit Valley girls soccer. In a battle of two defending sectional champions, Sauquoit beat Poland 5-3 as Kalil paced the winning attack by earning a pair of goals. Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Meredith Guerin, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill field hockey. Earning two goals and one assist, Guerin led the Red Devils to a 7-0 shutout of rival Oneida on October 6. University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Selena Chen, Fayetteville-Manlius girls tennis, rallying in three sets to beat Baldwinsville’s Ella Clary and helping the Hornets prevail 4-3 in the Section III Class A tournament final on October 4. Upstate Urology Upstart: Nico Marinich, Tully boys soccer. The Black Knights defeated Syracuse Academy of Science 5-1 on October 3 as Marinich led the way, scoring twice and adding an assist. U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Tyson Fuller, Oneida boys cross country. Fuller’s time of 17 minutes, 57 seconds was the quickest of the day and resulted in an individual title in the October 7 Whitesboro Invitational. Wilkins RV Winning Player: Gavin Ruggio, Oswego boys golf. Ruggio shot a brilliant 68 at Green Lakes State Park to take the individual title in the October 4 Salt City Athletic Conference Empire division tournament. Zero Draft Defensive Standout: Jamier Handford, Christian Brothers Academy football. Handford had an interception and forced fumble that led to two touchdowns as the Brothers defeated Cicero-North Syracuse 34-18 on October 6.
