APEX Ace Award: Mylie Weyant, Rome Free Academy girls bowling. Shooting five games of 231 or better and with a 1,375 series, Weyant won the state Division I individual championship during the March 15 NYSPHSAA tournament at Strike-N-Spare Lanes.
Atlas Fence All-Star: Eli Welch, Westhill boys basketball. When the Warriors roared past Franklin Academy 74-40 in the Class A regional playoffs on March 12 Welch stepped up as a scoring threat, finishing with 16 points.
Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Justyce Moore, Nottingham girls basketball. The Bulldogs beat West Genesee 48-42 for the Section III Class AA championship March 9 at SRC Arena as Moore dominated on the glass with 21 rebounds to go with her 18 points.
The Image Press Icon: Alex Locke, East Syracuse Minoa boys bowling. When the Spartans finished fifth in the NYSPHSAA Division I championships March 14 at Strike-N-Spare Lanes Locke shot the second-best individual series posting 1,516, an average of 252/67 per game.
JKS Roofing High Achiever: Danny Angelina, Skaneateles ice hockey. Allowing just one goal in two state “Frozen Four” games in Buffalo, Angelina helped lead the Lakers to its third consecutive state Division I championship.
Little York Plantation Play of the Week: A’briyah Cunningham, Liverpool girls basketball, hitting a rebound basket with less than a minute left in overtime keying the Warriors’ 73-65 win over Colonie in the March 15 Class AAA regional final.
Mabey’s Moving and Storage Major Mover: Dom Gosh-Sandy, Marcellus boys basketball. Working inside for his 19 points, Gosh-Sandy helped the Mustangs defeat Potsdam 61-49 in the opening round of the Class B regional playoffs on March 12 at Fayetteville-Manlius.
M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Izzie Sullivan, Fayetteville-Manlius girls indoor track and field. Sullivan finished 11th in the two-mile run with a time of 10:23.3 during the March 14 New Balance Indoor Nationals held in Boston.
Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Riley Abernethy, Bishop Grimes girls basketball. Producing a game-high 18 points plus eight rebounds off the bench, Abernethy led the Cobras past General Brown 52-46 on March 9 at SRC Arena to earn the Section III Class B championship.
North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort: Marcus Castine, Sackets Harbor boys basketball. Castine produced 22 points, 10 reobunds, five assists and four steals to help the Patriots beat Madison 53-44 for the Section III Class D championship March 8 at SRC Arena.
Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Ethan Crouse, Beaver River boys bowling. With his 1,318 series and high game of 278 Crouse led Section III to a second-place team finish in the composite portion of the NYSPHSAA championships March 15 at Strike-N-Spare Lanes.
O’Hara Electric Electrifying Play: Michael Vetter, West Genesee ice hockey, netting the goal late in the third period which broke a tie and helped the Wildcats edge Pittsford 2-1 in the Division I state semifinal in Buffalo.
110 Grill Award of Excellence: Elyza Smith, LaFargeville girls basketball. The Red Knights repeated as Section III Class D champions March 9 at SRC Arena beating Sackets Harbor 54-35 as Smith accumulated nine rebounds and six steals to go with her 10 points.
Onondaga Flooring Outstanding Achievement: Taryn Murphy, Fulton girls bowling. Murphy opened with a 243 game on her way to a 1,076 series as the Red Dragons led late in the March 14 NYSPHSAA Division I tournament but settled for fourth place.
Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Tom Blackford, Hamilton boys basketball. A salute to Blackford as he retires as head coach following a career where he won more than 600 games, the most in Section III history.
Senke CNY Garage Door Sensational Star: Ella Trinkaus, Utica Notre Dame girls basketball. Trinkaus did all she could in the Jugglers’ 58-50 loss to Franklin Academy in the March 12 Class A regional playoffs netting 35 points and converting 12 of her team’s 18 field goals.
Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Aubrey Greene, Central Square girls indoor track and field. Greene recorded a top-10 overall finish in the NYSPHSAA championships March 8 on Staten Island when she successfully cleared 11 feet.
University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Elianna Occhino, Christian Brothers Academy girls bowling, earning her third state championship with a closing game of 269 for an overall total of 1,371 for six games to finish on top March 15 at Strike-N-Spare Lanes.
Wilkins RV Winning Player: Owen Gasper, Auburn boys indoor track and field. Gasper’s time of four minutes 19.29 second in the 1,600-meter run put him in eighth place overall during the March 8 NYSPHSAA championships on Staten Island.
