Awards for 4/3/21

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Kylie Kress, Little Falls girls basketball. The Mounties held off the Poland Tornadoes 47-44 on March 27, improving to 6-5 overall as Kress had nearly half her team’s output, finishing the game with 21 points.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Hunter Morgan, Weedsport football. The eight-man Warriors outscored the Bishop Grimes Cobras 60-36 on April 3 as Morgan ran for 143 yards and three touchdowns while also throwing a 22-yard touchdown pass.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Male Athlete of the Week: Andrew VanPatten, Homer football. When the Trojans rolled past the Chittenango Bears 55-6 on March 30, VanPatten was at the forefront, with 19 carries for 208 yards and three touchdowns.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Female Athlete of the Week: Lexi Emmi, Bishop Grimes girls volleyball. The Cobras beat Syracuse Academy of Science in five sets on March 30 as Emmi, anchoring the back line, mixed in 21 assists, seven aces and three kills.

Mirbeau Inn and Spa Megastar: Sarah Kilburn, Watertown girls swimming. The Cyclones handled the Indian River Warriors 108-59 on March 31, with Kilburn at the forefront thanks to wins in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle and swimming legs in two victorious relays.

Nagle Turf Winning Moment: T.J. Conley, Fayetteville-Manlius football, running in for two points in overtime to clinch the Hornets’ 34-33 victory over Christian Brothers Academy in its March 27 season opener at Alibrandi Stadium. Coach of the Week: Karla Prince, Westhill girls volleyball. Prince has maintained the Warriors’ domination as the reigning two-time state Class B champions have extended its win streak to 44 consecutive matches, beating Cazenovia and Christian Brothers Academy this week.

Syracuse Fitness Store Standout: Jaylen Brantley, PSLA-Fowler football. In the Falcons’ first home game in more than a decade March 30, it defeated Hannibal 18-2 and Brantley offered a key play in the second quarter with an 87-yard touchdown run.

Syracuse Orthopedic Surgeons Student-Athlete: Will Lunny, Mount Markham boys basketball. The Mustangs wrapped up its season defeating Central Valley Academy 73-64 on March 27 as Lunny poured in 30 points, adding eight rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Syracuse Sauna King Superstar: Zach Bernard, Hamilton boys soccer. During the Emerald Knights’ 6-1 victory over Stockbridge Valley on March 30, Bernard proved unstoppable, notching four of his team’s goals and adding an assist.

U.S. Army Male Athlete: D’Angelo Withers, East Syracuse Minoa football. Withers scored two touchdowns and blocked a potential game-tying kick to help the Spartans hold off the Rome Free Academy Black Knights 32-29 in the March 30 opener at RFA Stadium.

U.S. Army Female Athlete: Kayla Newman, Christian Brothers Academy girls swimming. Newman posted the fastest Section III times of the season in the 200 freestyle (1:56.20) and 500 freestyle (5:16.45) in the Brothers’ 96-85 win over New Hartford March 30 at Nottingham High School.
