Awards for 4/10/21

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Gwen Lister, Jamesville-DeWitt girls swimming. Lister’s first-place finishes in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke were both crucial to the Red Rams holding off the New Hartford Spartans 94-91 in their April 6 meeting.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Rex James, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill football. James prowled on defense to earn 14 tackles, one of them a sack, as the Red Devils got the best of the archrival Oneida Indians 20-6 when they met on April 3.


Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Male Athlete of the Week: Collin Williams, Cortland football. As the Purple Tigers took down the Westhill Warriors 32-12 on April 7, Williams threw for 89 yards and also gained 115 yards on the ground on 10 carries, scoring twice.


Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Female Athlete of the Week: Morgan Napier, Fayetteville-Manlius girls volleyball. With her 37 assists and eight digs, Napier was crucial to the Hornets’ landmark four-set victory over previously unbeaten Baldwinsville on April 5.


Mirbeau Inn and Spa Megastar: Will Smith, West Canada Valley boys basketball. Smith amassed a double-double of 26 points and 15 rebounds, all of which were important for the Indians as it defeated Central Valley Academy 71-66 on April 3.


Nagle Turf Winning Moment: Cal Reed, Chittenango football, drilling a fourth-quarter extra point that made the difference for the Bears as it rallied late to defeat the Marcellus Mustangs 15-14 on April 8 in the season opener for both sides.


Summitcars.com Coach of the Week: Dave Moskov, Auburn football. Moskov employed a female kicker, Amelia Bartolotta, in the Maroons’ April 8 game against Central Square and she converted all six extra points in a 42-0 victory over the Redhawks.


Syracuse Fitness Store Standout: Grace King, Skaneateles girls swimming. With her top times in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke, King helped the Lakers win its second consecutive meet 101-70 over the Baldwinsville Bees on April 8.


Syracuse Orthopedic Surgeons Student-Athlete: Mikai Combs, East Syracuse Minoa football. Moving to 2-0 on the season when it defeated the Fulton Red Raiders 49-7 on April 3, the Spartans saw Combs score a pair of touchdowns while gaining 177 yards on 13 carries.


Syracuse Sauna King Superstar: Hayleigh Gates, Mount Markham girls basketball. Gates managed to outscore the opposition all by herself with 26 points along with four rebounds and four steals in the Mustangs’ 60-23 romp over Frankfort-Schuyler on April 5.

U.S. Army Male Athlete: Deante Hall, Watertown football. Hall ran for 223 yards and six touchdowns, including the game-winner in the fourth overtime, as the Cyclones emerged with a marathon 58-52 victory over the Beaver River Beavers on April 8.


U.S. Army Female Athlete: Bronte Stahl, Marcellus girls volleyball. The Mustangs put an end to two-time state Class B champion Westhill’s 44-match win streak in a five-set classic on April 5 as Stahl not only produced 18 kills, but added 18 digs, three aces and two assists.
