Awards for 12/4/2021

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Xander Gaige, Watertown boys swimming. When the Cyclones put away the Carthage Comets 113-57 on November 30, Gaige earned first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly and helped in the 200 medley relay.

The Amish Group Master Builder: Zach Blevins, Ontario bay ice hockey. Helped by Blevins’ pair of goals, the Storm was dominant in its November 30 game against the Liverpool Warriors, eventually earning a 5-0 shutout victory.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Skye Simmons, Sauquoit Valley girls basketball. Sauquoit pulled out a 54-51 victory over the Cooperstown Hawkeyes on December 2 as Simmons needed every bit of her 21 points, plus six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

E.J. Electric Electrifying Performance: Jordan Rae, Christian Brothers Academy football. When the Brothers beat Somers 32-31 for the state Class A championship on December 3, Rae completed 27 of 39 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Male Athlete of the Week: Johnathan Dion, Phoenix boys basketball. The Firebirds defeated the Clinton Warriors 65-56 on November 30, with Dion at the forefront thanks to his 32 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Female Athlete of the Week: Brody Ryan, Auburn girls bowling. Ryan’s 632 series and 232 high game helped the Maroons produce a key early-season 2-1 victory over the Liverpool Warriors on November 30.

Mirbeau Inn and Spa Megastar: Steyvon Jones, Syracuse Academy of Science boys basketball. The Atoms defeated the Baldwinsville Bees 63-57 on December 3 as Jones got 24 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and added five assists.

Nagle Turf Winning Moment: Jason Brunson, Christian Brothers Academy football, throwing a 19-yard touchdown pass to Jason Brunson with a minute left to give the Brothers a 20-18 victory over Jamestown in the November 26 state Class A semifinal.

Purcell Paints Hometown Hockey Hero: Anthony Falvo, New Hartford. The Spartans beat the archrival Whitesboro Warriors 6-4 on December 3 and Falvo had a whole lot to do it, assisting on four of his team’s goals.

Shute’s Water Systems Star Performance: Mike Grant, Homer boys bowling. Games of 257, 201 and 221 led to a 679 series and Grant helped the Trojans get a 7-0 shutout over Christian Brothers Academy on December 2.

Syracuse Fitness Store Standout: Pat Louer, Marcellus boys basketball. Though Louer had just six points in the Mustangs’ 58-50 victory over the Westhill Warriors on December 1, he contributed in many other ways thanks to his 11 rebounds and six assists.

Syracuse Orthopedic Surgeons Student-Athlete: Luken Gaiser, Canastota wrestling. It was Gaiser’s first-period pin over Bryce Odessa that set the tone for the Raiders’ 44-24 victory over the Cazenovia Lakers on December 1.

Syracuse Sauna King Superstar: Armen Tresnjo, Utica Proctor boys swimming. With Tresjno getting first-place finishes in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, the Raiders earned a 98-76 win over the Cooperstown Hawkeyes on December 2.

U.S. Army Male Athlete: Kaden Ondrako, Brookfield boys basketball. When the Beavers put away Morris 69-63 on Novemer 29, Ondrako was responsible for nearly half his team’s output, finishing the night with 31 points.

U.S. Army Female Athlete: Delaney Wiley, Thousand Islands girls basketball. With Wiley earning 22 points, the Vikings got off to a strong start in Frontier League play on November 30, defeating the South Lewis Falcons 52-28 on November 30.

Zero Draft Defensive Standout: Veronica Kowalewski, Tully girls volleyball. Kowalewski finished with 16 digs as the Black Knights, again getting off to a quick start, earned a four-set victory over the Pulaski Blue Devils on November 29.
