Awards for 1/20/2024

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Miyanah Robinson, Nottingham girls indoor track and field. Robinson won the 55-meter dash and was second in the long jump during the first session of the Bob Grieve Memorial January 18 at SRC Arena.

Atlas Fence All-Star: Charlie Lambert, Cooperstown boys basketball. Lambert nearly had a triple-double with 26 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds as the Hawkeyes defeated Sauquoit Valley 79-71 on January 17.

Attilios Ace Award: Akuot Kuany, East Syracuse Minoa girls volleyball. Kuany played a central role in big wins over Christian Brothers Academy and previously unbeaten Camden, earning a combined 30 kills, 12 blocks and 11 digs.

Byrne Dairy Prime Performer: Ray Cyr, New Hartford boys bowling. Cyr rolled the third 300 game of his career in the final game of the undefeated Spartans’ 10-1 victory over Vernon-Verona-Sherrill January 17 at CAC Clubhouse.

CNY Sealing and Paving Defensive Standout: India Clary-Sohriakoff, Manlius Pebble Hill girls volleyball. Clary-Sohriakoff earned 41 digs and helped the Trojans claim a five-set victory over Faith Heritage on January 18.

Ethan Allen Award of Excellence: Emeline Barton, LaFargeville girls basketball. Barton earned 29 points and nine rebounds as the Red Knights, moving to 11-1 on the season, defeated Sackets Harbor 55-44 on January 16.

Holbrook Heating and Air Conditioning Outstanding Athlete: Aidan Trimper, Watertown IHC ice hockey. The Cavaliers won 5-4 over Baldwinsville at Lysander on January 16 as Trimper led the attack with two goals and one assist.

The Image Press Icon: Bobby Piddock, South Jefferson boys basketball. Earning 15 points, 19 rebounds, four blocks and four assists, all of it important as the Spartans defeated Watertown 58-48 on January 16.

M. Lemp Jewelers Rewarding Effort: Collen Austin, Fulton wrestling. When the Red Dragons took team honors in the January 13 Blue Devil Invitational at Camden, Austin was the first-place finisher at 145 pounds.

Mooney Marketing Group/Bristol 7 Enterprises Major Performance: Payton Comstock, Dolgeville girls basketball. Comstock had 24 points, eight rebounds and four blocks helping the Blue Devils beat Frankfort-Schuyler 62-47 on January 18.

North Syracuse Lawn and Snow Notable Effort: Emma Smith, Cortland girls bowling. With a 634 series and high game of 227 at Cort Lanes, Smith carried the Purple Tigers to a 7-0 victory over Chittenango on January 18.

Nye Automotive Mark of Excellence: Lexus Bonnie, Phoenix girls wrestling. Improving her record to 23-1 on the season, Bonnie took the 100-pound title in the January 15 Section III Girls Ranking Invitational at Fulton.

Purcell Paints Prime Performer: Andrew Gabor, CNY Fusion ice hockey. When the Fusion ended Rome Free Academy’s 11-game win streak 2-1 on January 18 at Fulton, Gabor netted both of his team’s goals in the second period.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Ben VanVraken, Altmar-Parish-Wililamstown boys indoor track and field. VanVraken cleared 13 feet 6 inches in the pole vault in the January 19 Bob Grieve Memorial at SRC Arena.

University Sports Shop/Manny’s Major Moment: Cece Powell, Marcellus girls basketball, earning her 1,000th career point in the last minute of the game in front of the home crowd in the Mustangs’ 59-38 win over Phoenix on January 19.

Upstate Urology Upstart: Jackson Ruane, Waterville boys basketball. Waterville’s impressive 78-37 win over New York Mills on January 19 included Ruane picking up 22 points, adding six assists and seven steals.

U.S. Army Athlete of the Week: Kacey Kalfass, Cicero-North Syracuse wrestling. Kalfass won at 101 pounds in the January 13 Phoenix Mid-Winter Classic and then helped the Northstars beat Carthage in the Section III Division I Dual Meet final.

Wilkins RV Winning Player: Derick Wang, Fayetteville-Manlius boys swimming. When the Hornets knocked off previously unbeaten Liverpool 98-88 on January 16, Wang won the 50 freestyle and took part in two victorious relays.
