Awards 5/16/20

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Brynn Bernard, South Lewis girls cross country. Bernard made her way to second place with a time of 16 minutes, 57.6 seconds at Plattsburgh during the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C championships.

Mirbeau Inn and Spa Megastar: Caleb Bender, Skanaeteles boys cross country. Bender, in a time of 14 minutes, 41.6 seconds, conquered the SUNY-Plattsburgh course and won the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C championship.

Sam’s Auto Body Sensational Athlete: Peyton Geehrer, Fayetteville-Manlius boys cross country. Geehrer earned the Section III Class A individual championship and would also lead the Hornets to both the sectional and Class A team titles.

Sport Center 481 Driving Force: Kaylee Lacreta, New Hartford girls cross country. Finishing second among individuals, Lacreta was the central figure as the Spartans eventually pulled away to earn the Section III Class B championship at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill.

Summitcars.com Coach of the Week: Alex Barrett, Beaver River boys cross country. Barrett led a dominant group of Beavers runners to runaway victories in both the Section III and New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D championships.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Debbie Lucchetti, Fayetteville-Manlius girls cross country. Lucchetti’s 28th place finish helped seal for the Hornets yet another New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class A championship.

Upstate Medical University Magic Moment: Catherine Seidl, Camden girls cross country, crossing the finish line fifth among her team to clinch the Blue Devils’ New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C championship at Plattsburgh.

U.S. Army Male Athlete: Nate Rindfuss, Jamesville-DeWitt boys cross country. With a fourth-place finish, Rindfuss paced the Red Rams as it eventually earned the Section III Class B championship at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill.

U.S. Army Female Athlete: Katie Edinger, Tully girls cross country. Long in Brooke Rauber’s shadow, Edinger made a name of her own with a third-place finish in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships at Plattsburgh.

Wegmans Winning Player: Nick Berg, East Syracuse Minoa boys cross country. With a time of 16 minutes, 45.5 seconds at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, Berg won the Section III Class B individual championship and would go on to a seventh-place finish at the state Class B meet.
