Awards 4/11/20

AFLAC Amazing Athlete: Momo LaClair, Jamesville-DeWitt girls basketball. LaClair’s fine all-around play in the 2019-20 season earned her a first-team All-Central New York selection among large-school players.

Mirbeau Inn and Spa Megastar: Jack Henry, Skaneateles ice hockey. On his way to a first-team All-Central New York selection, Henry proved the backbone of the undefeated, state no. 1-ranked Lakers’ defense.

Sam’s Auto Body Sensational Athlete: Dominick Hofmann, Fulton wrestling. Hofmann was one of six Red Raiders whose championship efforts earned them spots on the All-Central New York team.

Sport Center 481 Driving Force: Hannah Boyle, Cicero-North Syracuse girls indoor track and field. Boyle was the Section III Class AA champion at 600 meters and also broke the Northstars’ school record in that event. Coach of the Week: Zach Shambo, Lowville boys basketball. In the last two seasons, Shambo helped lead the Red Raiders to the state Class B final in 2019 and back-to-back Section III championships.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists Student-Athlete: Keagen Case, Central Valley Academy wrestling. An All-Central New York selection, Case earned a fourth-place finish at 152 pounds in the Division II state championships.

Upstate Medical University Magic Moment: Catie Cunningham, West Genesee girls basketball, a key contributor to the Wildcats’ 2019 run to the state title game, announcing this week that she will attend Marist College in Poughkeepsie this fall.

U.S. Army Male Athlete: Derek Schumaker, Fulton ice hockey. A big part of the Red Raiders’ 2019-20 season improvement, Schumaker, the team’s leading scorer, was chosen first-team All-Central New York.

U.S. Army Female Athlete: Jamie Jones, Oneida girls volleyball. Having led the Indians to the Section III Class B winter championship, Jones garnered for herself first-team All-Central New York honors.

Wegmans Winning Player: Fannie Kumeh, Institute of Technology Central girls indoor track and field. After a successful season and an appearance at the state championship meet in the sprints, Kumeh is slated to attend LSU next fall.
